A birth year watch (kind of) - Mario GShock

An aspiration of mine has always been to one day own a watch made the year I was born. This is no easy task, and Im not an experienced vintage watch buyer, though I know some crunchers here can guide me. So when I saw the latest Mario GShock I thought it could serve as a nice memento while I gather the funds and courage to buy an old watch.

Ive been seeing a few posts of this watch already but I thought to put up one with more pics so people can see a few more details. To be honest, as is to be expected, the price and quality are not as good as other GShocks. This watch costs as much as a solar square face model and is by all specs inferior. But what it does have by the ton is nostalgia, so if you do buy it know that is what youre paying for.

In case you have not figured by now, I was born in 1985 which is the same year Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. Hence by "birth year watch" represented here. It has all the right colours and little details that remind me of playing NES when I was 4 years old (I was spoiled I guess?!). The best part of this watch is actually the backlight which has the now world famous 1UP caricature of Mario:

I dont know if this was on purpose or not, but it also looks like hes about to step on the green turtle shell adorning the bottom center of the dial. Surely this is how he got the points for the extra life.

Anyways, theres not much more to say really. Its a GShock, we all know them, they are retro, resin, and can get thrown across a room and survive. This also had the standard 200m water rating. To be honest though, this will mostly live in its box as an actual collectible piece. I will wear it now and then, but stare at it more often.

Maybe one day I'll post an actual watch from 1985, but for now this plastic gadget will do just fine to remind me how old I am haha.

I was this close to owning one. But someone snagged the last one away from me. Got put on waiting list. Not going to pay crazy amounts.

Best of luck finding one. Chek out Hudson's Bay, they have stock now and then and it's not a common place people look for GShocks. Based in Canada.

There was Hudson’s Bay in Europe. They left as fast as they came in.
