Selling watches.. yes or no?

Hi everyone,

I have been collecting for a little over 3 years now and never sold a watch.

Now that I have a few I constantly think if it makes sense to buy and never sell. I also don't have any monetary pressure which is the biggest argument to just keep them even if i don't wear them.

What do you guys do? And if you sell, any tips?

As of now i am thinking of selling (if someone is interested):

  • BB58
  • Luminor Due
  • JLC (because Reverso will come)

Nice looking collection, and display case.

I've been collecting for almost 4 years, and have never sold a single watch.  There are three reasons :

1) Like you, there is no financial necessity for doing so

2) I find that if I get tired of a watch, and don't wear it for months, it can almost feel like getting a new watch when I rediscover it

3) I have some watches in my collection which I purchased with no intent to really wear, so I don't have an issue with having watches in my collection that don't get wrist time

Ooooo...6139😍 she's a beauty!!

They are over hyped and they look identical to a few million other dive watches.  Just my opinion.

I'm all for selling watches that I've stopped to wear. After all, these are objects made for use and I'd rather see someone happily wear my watch than have it laying in the box unused. Then again, if you have the financial opportunity to keep everything and still get what you want next, you might be spared of some future regrets! 😅

For the first time, I sold a watch on Sunday.

Previously I had been of the mindset that since I had no need to sell a watch, why should I bother selling it? It harms nothing sitting in my collection.

After thinking about it a bit more, I came to the conclusion that selling the watch also would harm nothing, and it would give someone else the chance to love the watch.

I don't plan to sell everything, but getting over that first sale means the next time I decide to move something along it should be easier.

Point 2 is very interesting! I should try it this way because at the end i still buy watches to wear them.

Thanks :)

I just realized that i am not a dive watch guy. I think the watch is amazing but it doesn't really fit my style.

I really like that way of seeing it! Very nice thought that someone else will enjoy it much more than i do. (Now at least)

Thank you! I absolutely love it, this watch has great history and an awesome clean design. I am amazed on how well it still runs and how compact it is for a chronograph with a day/date function

There are different things you can do with the watch before you ultimately decide to sell. Check out the YT video by Teddy Baldassarre.
