[GS SBGW283 Dial] - Not frustrating, but not great either

So, this week I went to a GS AD because I wanted to take a closer look into the SBGW283. I was planning to buy a GS for a long time and this new line with hand-wind movements and texture dials got my attention. However, when I saw it in person I noticed only a slight difference with my SARX055 dial, nothing impressive to be honest.

I rather keep my SAX055 and use that money elsewhere...

What is your opinion about GS under 6K?

I dont like the style either. My favorites are the ones with the 44case. Many of them are under 6k too.

At the $6k price point, the Mt. Iwate has an amazing dial.  Alternately, any Spring Drive!

That SARX is really nice! Stick with that whilst you wait for right GS to come along.

I like the idea of Grand Seiko but never seem to like any of the actual models they sell. Maybe one day I will find one I click with.

I 2nd this wise recommendation

At $800 direct from Japan the sarx055 is bargain. Great dial, titanium, really well executed.

I think you're right. Save the money and buy another GS intead.

The Yen hit a 24 year low against the dollar yesterday (Friday).

Time to load up on watches!

This was the one issue with Grand Seiko where most of the design kind of looks the same. The hands and indices particularly. The dial is out of this world though.

You have pretty much made your point and that the Sarx055 hits the mark for you and I agree that it isn't worth purchasing the Grand Seiko in terms of what it can do for you.

On a horological point of view, a manual wound watch at 37.3mm with a 3 day power reserve with chronometer accuracy, now that's something.  With Grand Seiko you need to be able to accept that their watch will be expensive if you are comparing to any Seiko models whether its the Prospex or Presage series.

Of course on a closing argument, I would say that if I owned the Sarx055, I'd be happy that I saved up over 5K 😀

GS has been coming out with a bunch of these SBGW variants with different dials, slightly smaller cases on some and some with more water resistance. Some are ok, some not so much. Either way, they are pricing them too high. The SBGW231 is still by far my favorite version and you can find them used for under $3,500 vs these new versions with basically a different color dial for $5k+. Seems silly to buy those right now.

try something more different from what you already have. My personal favorite case designs are 44GS and 62GS. I like the more classic angular GS cases.
