Best place to sell watches?

With all the talk to collection consolidation, I've thoughtfully reviewed my collection. Over taken into the trap of "this cheaper microbrand will quench my thirst of the real thing."

The result: The microbrand did not satisfy, and I am thirstier than ever.

With that said, I want to make some space in my crowded watch box and sell 2 of my "homages". Where's the best place to sell lower end/cheaper watches? Is it even worth selling? Ones a San Martin and the other is an islander.

Watchfam (@UnholiestJedi @Unholy @cesarvalenca @benswatchclub ) - where do I go from here?

Affordable microbrand watches are hard to sell. May be better to simply  give them away as gifts. Or dump them on eBay and expect to get almost nothing for them.

I buy my watches on that lower end as well and have not yet wanted to sell one.

The return on my time to sell them just isn't there... for me. I've gifted away ones I didn't want.

That said, if you want to throw em' up on eBay and add $10 shipping charge, you certainly can.

Which ones are you selling If you don't mind sharing?

i dont live at us so i dont know which are the best option. im currently living at indonesia and got just one experienced with selling watch. previously i sold my seiko snk809 in good condition with 1 zulu strap as bonus at local online marketplace which popular at my country (something like ebay), long story short it was sold with 30-40% off than the new one.

I find that ebay is a good way to get rid of some of my affordable pieces. In the past few years I've sold a Movado, a Bulova, a couple of Seikos, etc. But no microbrands. And typically, I sell them to move. For instance, I have a Seiko Prospex Solar Worldtimer that Chrono 24 says is worth $350. I doubt that, but I might list it on ebay for $200-250 to see if I get any bites. The watch simply doesn't hit the wrist enough and I have other solar quartz pieces in the collection that scratch that itch. So, my guidance is, price things right and you will find a buyer.

Does Watchuseek not have a topic for selling watches? Where I'm from there is one huge online forum on watches, and people can sell watches there to other members. The watches put up there go from cheaper AliExpress watches all the way to $90k Daytona's.

Another platform such as eBay might work as well, and maybe even Facebook Marketplace.

Don't forget FB Marketplace for local sales.

I asked the moderator here for a permanent SALES/TRADE category on our site here.  No answer as of yet.

Personally, I wouldn't sell but mod them, unless you really don't like the case.

you know what? my son (6 years old) has told me multiple times that he really thinks that my green islander skx homage is "super cool". I should give it to him rather than sell it. Thanks man.

Appreciate this post, as my IG algo has suddenly flooding me with Baltic and Serica pictures... and can't lie, I'm tempted!

I’ve bought two watches on WatchUSeek and been very happy with them. Reddit also has /r/watchexchange, which is also pretty good. Kinda surprised there isn’t a buy/sell/trade forum here.

Slightly off-topic, but I have to disagree with some of the comment above. There are buyers who will snap up affordable microbrands. My collection is very intentionally almost 90% indies and micros, enough so that I started a website and Insta specifically focusing on that sector. Micro doesn’t always mean cheap, either. I’ve got a $2K Monta Atlas GMT on my wrist right now (though admittedly, it’s the most expensive watch I own). Just putting this out there to make sure you don’t pass on microbrands because you have a bad taste after your first couple of purchases.

I like this idea. The community here seems pretty solid and a sales/trade page would be nice

Agreed

To be honest, most I sell are on eBay, which works alright if I sell multiple at once. That being said, they take a big cut which sucks and buyers are a hassle to deal with. Recently, many abroad buyers are using private couriers to skirt eBay's Global Shipping Programme and then claiming the item never arrived to get both the product and a refund. eBay hates sellers basically 😭
