Discuss: best watch around 500-600.

I just bought a bulova lunar Pilot and now i see why i should seek to buy "better" watches rather than inexpensive ones (inexpensive and expensive is relative, but to me 500-600 on a watch is expensive). Wondering what you think are the best buys in the price categorie.

Depends on what you value in a watch. If you want a bigger brand then Hamilton, Tissot, and Seiko are going to be the go to options in the price point. If you are ok with microbrands zelos and Nodus make great watches in that price point. If you can find a Christopher Ward either on sale or used that would also be a great option in the price point. I don’t want to name specific models since you didnt mention what style of watch you are looking at

I would echo many of @Badgerracer suggestions/comments. Only other thing I would add is not to look past the used market either. Beyond finding some fairly decent deals, for me personally, there is always something very enjoyable and rewarding about the "hunt". The other plus is you're giving a once-loved watch a new home.

300 to 600 is pretty much my budget for most watch purchases. You can still get a great watch but not be as worried about theft, damage, loss, … . Anyway if you want a big brand it does limit you to Seiko, Casio, Hamilton, Glycine, Tissot, and Orient. However lots of great micro brands offering better value at that price range. Zelios, Phoibos, Traska, Helm, Lorie, Astor and Banks, …. . There are also some solid value watches coming out of China if your okay with homage watches (some due original designs). San Martin, Seagull, and Heimdallr come to mind.

if you don’t mind me asking where do you go to for your used watches? I’m a bit weary about eBay I’ve heard some horror stories

The few I've bought were from eBay. But I did get an SKX009 from Chrono24 and a SKX007 Mod from Etsy. No complaints on any of my purchases but to be honest I don't buy a lot of used watches. Most of my watchmod projects are full builds from 3rd party conversion parts sold at places like Crystal Times, Namokimods, Watch and Style, etc ... .
