Seiko in the Movies

My favorite watch brand is Seiko. Yes, they've had QA issues and yes they are increasing their prices but they have history and still make a very solid watch for a price I'm willing to pay unlike other big brands.

Anyway, I can't help but notice Seiko has been relatively absent on the big screen these last few years. You use to see them in the movies fairly often with Bond gracing Seiko for a while, the Willard in Apocalypse now, and the early Schwarzenegger flicks.

Today I see Hamiltons, Breitlings, Omegas, Bremonts, IWCs, and Casios but Seiko is absent. Literally, the most recent movie I can recall seeing Seiko on the wrist was. All Is Lost, in 2013. Is it just me being oblivious and if so please point some more recent movies out. I'm feeling neglected by Hollywood.  :)

Movie watches are brand placement pieces. Actors will wear anything the studio tells them too for a price.

Yup and apparently Hamilton and Omega fund a lot of movies. I'm thinking Seiko made a conscious decision at some point not to incorporate movie branding in their marketing strategy. Which I find odd as it obviously works specially with them trying to go upmarket.

I'm a Seiko fan boy. They've got their issues, but there's no denying that the world of horology would be diminished without their influence. Seiko's most vocal critics tend to be their most loyal fans and much like Rolex, all they have to do is release a new standout watch every once in a while and all is forgiven.

How much of a Takeshi Kitano fan are you?
Check out his film “Brother”, it’s the closest he has been to a Hollywood production and I reckon there might be a Seiko in there 😉

Seiko watches are ubiquitous. They don't need product placements and still sell millions of watches. And they have an enormous range of watches at every price point. Something for everyone!

·

Big Seiko fan as well 👋🏽 Their loyal following seems to serve them well

Huge Seiko fan myself. When you consider the entire breath of their product line, it's super impressive. Anywhere from affordable Seiko 5 to top line Credo (competing against high Swiss brands).

nice I think the only one I've seen and I'm embarrassed to say is The Meg

·

Yeah I think product deals were less rampant in movies at the time as I've heard a few stories of that was the Actors own jacket or it was their watch.

·

I usually can’t make out watches on the big screen.

In all honesty unless it’s a blatant close up I miss it also lol

The good old Roger Moore days :). Heard he wears a Tissot Seastar in one movie which was his personal watch. However, I have not confirmed that.

That would be cool. I haven’t heard that one but I recently watched all the bond movies in order because I never saw any before the Daniel crieg ones. Such a good series
