I Bought an Ugly Watch but it was in a Movie

I know the Casio DW290 has a lot of love out in the community but it's not something I would normally have any interest in.

However, despite not being a fan of Tom Cruise in general he has made some movies I enjoy. The Mission Impossible Franchise contains most of those movies.  I heard that the Casio DW290 was potentially being phased out of the Casio lineup and thought I really should get one if that's happening otherwise it may become ridiculously hard to find for a fair price like many discontinued Seikos.

Plus it is likely one of the cheapest movie watches available only rivaled by this one or the FW91.

Pretty sure the DW290 isn't going to get a ton of wear but figured for $50 why not.

Any other ugly movie watches out there on wrist? I also have the GDW 6900 whose older form the DW6900 was also a Mission Impossible Watch. I do actually wear that a lot so maybe the DW290 will end up being the same.

I've always thought this one was ugly, but I handled one in person a few weeks ago, and it's less ugly in real life.

All that matters, is if you like it, enjoy it, or otherwise want to experience it, have fun. We each like different things in our watches.

The DW-5600E is probably the closest to an ugly movie watch that I own. Maybe the Timex ironman. (Both in movies, both ugly to some people)

I’m actually not a huge Casio guy but I own 3 primarily due to movie appearances. One is the GDW 5600 which is the DW slightly upgraded.  That is the Casio on my wrist most regular.

I think most people would call the Seiko Willard ugly but I'm obsessed with it because of Apocalypse Now.

If I bought one of the higher price Seikos it would be the Tuna or the Willard. I really like the Willard. Tried to scratch the itch with a Steel Dive but it just made it worse lol

I think I'll only be happy with a vintage 70s willard. Just looked that up and...maybe next year.$

I'm also into the Seiko Redford wore in All Is Lost. And after seeing your last post, so are you!

I will never sell my SKX009 sometimes I wonder why I bought other watches. I modded mine a bit with sapphire glass and a NH movement upgrade.  I kind of want a stock non-modded version also.

I do a vintage Willard search from time to time, if I saw one in fairly good condition at the right price I’d go that route myself.
