Downsizing / consolidating field watches: Hamilton or Alpinist?

I posted [my SOTC](https://www.watchcrunch.com/tesseraic/posts/state-of-the-collection-august-2022-14759) the other day. I didn't get into it then, but for a while now I've been contemplating getting rid of all of my field watches (two Seko SNK80xes and a Bertucci A-2S) and replacing them with one. But which one? I've narrowed it to two.

The Hamilton is a much better watch in my opinion.

Might I suggest the Marathon GPQ/GPM steel, or Navigator? A field watch from an actual military watch producer.

Ugh, I keep forgetting WatchCrunch doesn't support Markdown.

·

I’m biased, the Alpinist has a great history and I like the dial color, but cyclopses ain’t for me.

·

They look great as a duo honestly. I’d buy both and keep one on nato, and the other on leather/bracelet. Work and play. Great choices 👍🏼

·

Both nice watches bit it's the Hamilton for me.

·

Out of those two, it's obvious you'll get the Hamilton, since you already bought two white dial field watches.

May I suggest, the Archimede Outdoor 39?

Boldr's Venture line is also worth a look:

While I do not own the Alpanist anymore, I do miss it and find myself looking for another. I am still trying to convince myself not to buy the SBGH271 which seems like a GS version for me.

Alpinist! Tough watch that looks amazing. price won't brake the bank but I did add a Strappcode bracelet w/ seiko marine master diver clasp

·

The Hamilton is super simple and fun to win  on the daily.  Love mine

I’ve owned both, sold my Alpinist due to poor movement accuracy, almost + 3 to 5 minutes a day fast. Shame though, I really liked the design of the watch. Still have the Hamilton though, great watches for the price, mines the 38mm automatic version.

Yeah, you came to the wrong place friend. I think you should keep those two. I’m a one fieled watch guy, but that’s only because I don’t already have those two.

You’ve come to the wrong place as well. You should totally get an Alpinist, but you need that GS too. Now that I think about it, there are a ton of watches you need…it’s like you’re not even trying.

·

I like Hamilton field watches, but that one doesn't do it for me. A choice between the black Khaki Field Automatic and the Alpinist would have been harder.

Buy it! :p

When it comes to field watches Hamilton has more history and "pedigree" than Seiko. I will keep the Hamilton. But hey, If you can keep them both the go for it too.

·

I hate to agree with @roberto AGAIN, but I’m gonna change my vote to replace both with the Seiko SPB241. It looses the cyclops and finicky chapter ring of the Aplinist keeping the classic touches.

·

I’ve handled the Hamilton and bought the baby alpinist. it’s a lot more going on on the dial and it has a date. freaking awesome watch

·

Get the seiko it’s far more elegant.

·

the kaki field doesn't have cons. It's a incredible watch

·

Keep the Hamilton thats for sure!

·

If it's close, get the Khaki Field (or keep the Khaki Field).  I can't tell if you were buying one to replace your others or getting rid of all of them except for one of these two.

Either way, the new Alpinist is $230 more (at retail but you can get healthy discounts on both) so the Hamilton saves you money if buying or nets you more if keeping (leaving you a little more towards the purchase of the next watch).

Hamilton for me
