Eureka! The Murph arrived in time for 21st Birthday celebrations 🎉

I placed an order with Jomashop for the very first time only a few days ago on 13 May. I purchased the Hamilton Murph 42mm as a Birthday gift for my son who turns 21 at the end of the month 🎁 🎂

I was so happy when the delivery arrived in only four days 😳 Like it travelled in some type of Interstellar space time continuum. Afterall, there is some distance from Brooklyn, NY to make it down under to Melbourne, true!

The Murph was securely packed and in ‘stellar’ condition 😉

My son has developed an intrigue with vintage watches over the last year, considers himself a movie buff and consumes everything pop culture.

That to me equals the Murph being the perfect gift for his 21st Birthday.

His Birthday is on 29 May. I will endeavour to make a follow up post with his reaction and some wrist shots.

Hopefully another Eureka moment ✨🚀

Very thoughtful gift. I’m sure he’ll love it!

it's the perfect gift then. given son's intrigue with vintage, why did you chose the 42mm over the 38mm?

·

Nice one Marko, I bought my son a Captain Willard for his 21st and he loves it. Its a great gift 🎁 I hope your son enjoys it.

·

I like the look of the Murph. However it might be to big for my 7 inch wrist. Your thought on seeing the actual watch?

Congrats all around.

Hi farro, I chose the 42mm as this was the size watch used in the movie and I wanted to stay true to the original in a pop culture sense I suppose. And the young fella is six foot four and wears some of my larger watches well. But the vintage pieces he has been drawn too are 37s and 38s. I hope he likes the original Murph as much as he loved the movie 🚀

Hi Mark, Apocolipse Now is one of my favourite movies. I was very young when I read Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and loved the film adaptation. And later in life became to love that watch too!! How was your son’s reaction to the watch and does he wear it often or is it for special occasions only? Has it sparked him taking a further interest in watches?

Hi Howard, Hamilton made a 38mm due to the high demand for the watch. That may be the go to.

I have only handled the Murph out of the box briefly to make sure it arrived in one piece. First impressions, wow 🤩 they nailed it. A class dial with matching classy hands and a case finished to a high standard. It is like it appeared in the movie and it has that nostalgia to it.

I think it will become better with age too, when it starts showing those worn and wound marks and starts telling its own story. Hopefully my boy can look back in time and cherish the journey.

Do you have any ‘movie’ watches in your collection?

Hi Mare, thank you. I think if you asked my boy, he wouldn’t exactly associate me and cool in the same sentence 😂 I hope he likes it 💕

Do you have any ‘movie’ watches in your collection? And/or any watches received from your family?

Becoming cool is a process i suppose and this act will get you much closer. Don't have any movie watches as far as I know. Neither from family but will pass down my watches to my kids.

That’s a beautiful watch! I’m sure he’s gonna love it!
