Lucky find! Antique Enamel Dial

A while back, I was sifting through a pile of antique dials to see if there was anything cool.

For the most part, nothing too exciting. But then I found an enamel dial in good condition that was very close in size to the dials used in Seiko Mods!

Needless to say, parts were soon ordered. I measured the dial at 28.7mm, which is slightly larger than Seiko dials but I was able to file off enough to squeeze it into a case.

I wasn't too keen on having an empty subdial, so I brainstormed how to add a little decoration. First I tried applying some leaf, but that was messy/difficult and I did not like the result. I ended up ordering a thin piece of silver, then grinding it down to fit in the subdial.

This might be an "eternal work in progress" as I change my mind on various things, but for now I'm pretty happy with it! I did some online searching, and I'm fairly certain that the dial originally was in a Ladies' Pocket Watch dating between 1890 and 1910.

Overall, I'm happy to now have an enamel dial in my collection, let alone one that's over 100 years old!

A moustache would look good on the subdial.

Not a bad idea! A full handlebar would add some class

I never thought I’d see the day an Elgin dial got modded to a Seiko. Mind blown 🤯
