New watch: Laco Flieger Type-B Karlsruhe Pro 40

Had to do it, folks. Had to get in on Flieger Fridays so I pulled the trigger (Top Gun speak: I'm switching from missles to guns). Wanted one from the original 5 and went with this Laco. The decision came down to the fact that there is a Laco AD here in town and I like to keep my business local whenever possible. Opened the box in the store and was immediately and wildly unimpressed. That's right. The black stock pilot's strap it came on, fake rivets and all, was underwhelming. But I remembered I just got in 2 new pilot straps from Fin and the rest is history. Can't wear a new suit with crappy shoes and boy this shoe fits just great. Now that I was comfortable with the look, I got to dig into the watch itself. The finishing is fantastic and I love the FL23883 engraving that Laco does not charge for. The Sellita SW 200 manual wind is a real beauty and fun to stare at, especially when winding. The half-onion crown I prefer over the Stowa as it is more authentic and very tactile. The lume is crazy. Pretty much fully-lumed unlike the newer Stowas. I got the logo dial because the 'Laco' is so unassuming and I love the 'made in Germany' on it as well - it is a busy dial with lots of redundant hashes and numerics and the lettering is a nice add. The 40mm case sits perfectly on my 17cm wrist, and the finishing is very, very nice; I think that's where the money is on this one. I love this package and this strap adds some vintage feel to it, even with the polished buckle; this is my 4th Fin strap and they are my favorite leathers (they do not pay me). I'll add some skin and arm hair in a few days and (I get to say it now), see you next Flieger Friday!

Nice Flieger! 200 metre water resistance is impressive. Is the crown still just pull-out?

Screw down, which I did not know and really didn’t want in a no-date manual wind, but it works! Half-onion and very tactile.

Lovely piece! How happy are with it after a few days? I'm curious about the accuracy and the wear experience.

I'm also curious how much is the case thickness excluding the crystal, as I didn't see this spec anywhere.

Absolutely love it. Runs about +15sec/day, a little over 10mm thick on the manual wind. I was really happy with the quality of finishing on the case, good old German manufakturing!
