One Month, One Watch: My Journey with the Seiko Alpinist

For the past 30 days, I’ve been wearing the same watch every single day—the Seiko "Ghost" Alpinist. This experience has been surprisingly enlightening and refreshing.

Here are a few things I’ve learned:

1. Simplicity is Bliss: Not having to decide which watch to wear each morning was a relief. It simplified my routine and made me appreciate the watch on my wrist more deeply.

2. Less Can Be More: This month made me realize I can be perfectly content with a smaller, more focused collection. I don't need a large assortment to feel fulfilled.

3. Meaning Over Quantity: Moving forward, I want my collection to consist of a few iconic, purposeful pieces from heritage brands that resonate with me. Watches that tell a story and hold personal significance.

4. Anticipation Reignited: Tomorrow, I'll finally swap out the Seiko for my Omega Seamaster. For the first time in a long while, I’m genuinely excited to wear a different watch. It's a reminder of the joy of rediscovery.

5. Collection Overhaul: This journey has inspired an epic purge—I'm cutting down my collection by over two thirds. I’m keeping only those pieces that truly matter to me.

With that overhaul in mind, my "exit watch" is on its way! Stay tuned to see which timepiece will round out my newly curated collection.

Awesome watch. My compass moved at the slightest bump on my ghost alpinist and the cyclops so got rid of it but good looking watch

Nice! Yes the compass bezel moves all the time, but honestly, I barely notice it. Just a fun visual element, so I don't mind it being off noon.

The cyclops I've debated back and forth about removing. It does make reading the time from about 12-18 past the hour tricky, but it does do its job rather well... I'll leave it for now and wait and see.

I have the ghost Alpinist as well. One of my favourite watches. I personally like the cyclops because I can read the date without reading glasses. As for the compass bezel I feel like you do. It's a nice bit of colour and who cares if it moves a bit (I don't find it moves much). It's not like it's being used to time dives.

Good principals. I love wearing a new watch everyday and appreciating it. BTW, that Alpinist is such a beautiful piece. The hands and dial are perfect.
