The one to rule them all and keep forever (300€/320$)

Okay so hear me out I just have an interesting thought experiment.

I know for some here this nothing they would usually even look at but I want to know your pick:

You can buy ONE watch and one watch only and you will have to keep this one for the rest of your life. Obviously you can decide to wear it or not wear a watch at all but I guess for most of us that isn't a choice anymore. This watch can only cost up to 300€ or 320$ at current exchange rate. With straps and bracelets you can ball out all you want. Put a platinum Rolex bracelet on a seiko 5 if you want ;D.

I will think about it and edit the post to put it here I'm just curious what your picks would be.

I think this question is actually a lot easier with the price qualifier. I’d pick my Orient Kamasu.

It cost me less than the €300 specified, it looks great got the 200m water resistance so I can take it into the water without worrying and I can change the strap out (got my brown tropic ready to go).

Swiss Made high beat automatic on a bracelet, kinda sporty, kinda dressy, useful in most circumstances with 100M WR, and within your proposed budget at $319:

Not necessarily my first choice, but it was easy and quick to find given the parameters provided.

·

Its probably the DressKX.  Infinite bracelet and strap options.  Infinite modding options too so whenever I inevitably get bored I can tinker.

something vintage - take your pick. I would go with any of these from recent months, but I can draw from a deeper pool. Everything is under £50.

Keeps going like a champ even after years on my wrist

im actually doing it with my kamasu. my first mechanical watch and im planning to keep it for the rest of my life. also fit the pricerange and will accomodate all of my activiy

As the only watch, In would probably pick a quartz watch, because it is just so practical. Any solar watch from Seiko, Citizen and a few others will do. My own Seiko SBPX101 (titanium) is just a pleasure to wear and requires minimal maintenance.

·

I have a love/hate thing for this question. The truth is.....im weak!! I'd end up lying my ass off, most likely to be hiding in a some run down shit hole sneaking the enjoyment of other hard-core watches. My names Mike and I'm 41mm Hor!!

·

Quite confident it will be the Kamasu as well. I'd love a quartz diver, but most of them are 44mm or larger for whatever reason 🥲

·

I have the Kamasu and the Dress KX from those suggested already and both are great candidates. I'm going to add two from my wish list , I can't decide between them?

Firstly the Orient Star Outdoor currently £312. Tremendous value from a stalwart brand.

Secondly the Phoibos Nebula currently £336. Another tremendous specced model from one of the best microbrands. Both of these are contenders IMO?

Hi Mike, I'm Todd and I'm a novelty watch horologist.

If you know what you are looking at which you clearly do then this demonstrates you come buy some great pieces for little money? Six in fact and then some change within the parameters set here.

I would however end up buying a dogs dinner!

I can be tough on watches, so if it's a one or none deal, the G-Shock GSTB400-1A

·

Orient Kamasu is a great choice. I might also pick a 38 or 40mm Islander diver because I prefer 20mm lug width..

·

I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that I don’t want to.
Also...if I decide today and next year they release a banger for this price I will never forgive myself. 😄

·

I always bend the rules and I can never stay within budget.  So I am cheating with this used Seiko Presage Cocktail Time, eye candy, watch that I found on Chrono:

·

I would probably pick something as versatile as possible. This Tissot looks great and is WELL under the budget. I like the red seconds hand for a pop of color and lots of straps would go with it. Checks lots of boxes!

100m WR

10mm thick

20mm lug width

powermatic 80 movement

brand heritage

seems like a great option to me!

·

Orient Kamasu Gen 1...torn between green or red but black would be the most versatile

as long as the sun shines  this will keep on ticking!! 💪😎

·

I'd rather be strung out on a rack than be forced to own one watch the rest of my life.

·

I can‘t come up with one. I can’t come up with one for 10x the price. I like having a variety too much.

·

I would go with my Seiko Flighty. Chrono, 200m WR, alarm, 2nd time zone, can even use as a calculator...it's also mesmerizing and beautiful to look at. ☺️

Image
·

Making a couple right now waiting on parts for a third and figuring the parts list for the 4th

·

I would go for the Blue Baby Alpinist. They are 40-50% off all the time now, but it's still a little over 400$...

Can I go for a second hand? Found this beauty yesterday for just under 300$:

Image

200m WR, Sapphire, auto ETA, fully titanium, date, timing function, decent bracelet, relatively new and good condition. Unique dial and bezel but pretty versitile.

F*ck, I might have made such a good case for it that I have to buy it...
