Six Watches That Should be in the 2022 GPHG Nominations

Like clockwork, on September 1st, the nominated timepieces appeared on the GPHG website. GPHG is the annual competition of watches launched from May prior year to October this year. It is often compared to the Oscars Awards for the movie industry. There are in total 15 categories in GPHG. The 650 GPHG academy members would vote in the first round to select the nominated watches. For this year, there are 254 entries and the list of competing watches is

First, big congratulations to all 90 watches that were nominated to the second round at the 2022 GPHG!  It is celebration time at these brands and an opportunity for some promotions.

Many watches didn't make the cut, including quite a few of new releases that I really love.  I wrote this article to share my appreciation for the excellent work in creating these wonderful pieces.

Do you have any favorite brands/models that you wish them to be nominated?

Thanks for sharing as I have not dug in yet. That Lyrique is the business. Wish I had not seen it.  :-)

Thanks for reading! They used a subscription model for the Lyrique No 1, so we will need to wait for them to do the next one.  Take care!

Nice write up. Minase should have made it through.

Beautifully written, as always!

Saw a vid on the Lyrique. Maybe I misunderstood but it seems to be a watch the was put together from available parts from various manufacturers.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!  It is a group of watch collectors/lovers who knew exactly what they wanted and hired a Swiss designer and top suppliers to produce the watch. The designs of the dial and lugs are unique for this watch and there was some customization of the movement I believe.

I'm not a participant in this project and I got the info from the videos and GPHG website.  I'm a long time follower of Prof Bill's YouTube channel, so I was aware of the project.  I just thought that it was very cool to create a watch like this, and the final product looks very good!

GPHG apparently recognized the watch's eligibility to enter into the competition and recognized Lyrique as a brand.   So I gather that it is one way to get the watch one wants at a specific price.  I do hope that the Group will continue to work on additional models and make some watches available for purchase by general public.  Thanks!
