Long-Term Review: Patek Philippe Calatrava Weekly Calendar 5212A-001

The weekly calendar 5212A from Patek Philippe is the dress watch I have worn the most during the last 2 years. It is a versatile watch suitable for remote work, hybrid-work and full return to office. I took it to NBA games and weekend hikes with friends. It is the watch that I received the most compliments, in person with watch friends or on the Instagram.

Weekly calendar is a rare complication that only a handful of brands have ever produced. Around 2009, Patek started to work on the idea. It was meant to be a "small" and "useful" complication to delight the collectors. 5212A was launched 10 years later in 2019.

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony reference 47052 is an elegant weekly calendar from 1990s. Blancpain released a beautiful Villeret Weekly Calendar in Basel 2017. How could Patek up the game?

First, no sub-dials like these previous models. All five hands were stacked up in the center. Next, hand-written fonts were used, something that had never done before. Lastly, a new movement with tons of improvements were developed.
