All new Pasha de Cartier with a protective grille

Pasha de Cartier with a grille, first launched in 1985, returned to production this year as a “one shot” model. Absolutely stunning, quirky, elegant and versatile! Please read my in-depth review of this Genta designed, iconic timepiece.

Yeah, I saw some pictures of those.

Naw, no thanks. Never have liked grills like this.

·

Very elegant choice. Enjoyed the read as well. I had no idea Pasha meant lord.

There are many other Pasha models without the grille.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!  From the research, a Pasha was not a sultan or king, but answered to no one.  He was a ruler of his region.  There might be a better word than lord.  thanks for getting me to think about it more :))

Bars and a chain make it the "bondage edition" The band doubles as a strap.

Great article, and congratulations on your purchase!  For some reason, I had thought that the Pasha dated back to the early part of the last century, and was surprised to see that it was recent enough to have been designed by Genta.

I hadn't really considered Cartier until I discovered the Santos a couple of years ago. Once I started looking into it, it became an obsession for me, and I ended up adding the Santos De Cartier WSSA0037 to my collection this February. Like many watches from Cartier, it's quite polarizing, even to me. I seem to have a love/hate relationship with it, but I can't see it ever leaving my collection.

The Pasha is even more polarizing than the Santos, but I find that the grille really helps add to the appeal. If it wasn't 2-3X the price of the Santos, I'd love to have one in my collection.

If I am not mistaken isn't that grill a copy of a very old dive watch ? Actually invicta has a watch with the same look and I think that watch was inspired by this old dive watch. If anyone knows what I am talking about please comment.

Thanks for the comments and I'm aware of the version of story that there was a 1943 version of Cartier that had a grille.   I was very intrigued by this and did a lot of search.  I talked to George Cramer (a seasoned Cartier collector and writer) and Andrew (Watchfinder talking hand who interviewed with Cartier on Pasha).   The situation is that there were not any publications prior to 1985 that described or showed a Cartier with a grille.  The talk of 1943 model with grille only showed up after 1985.  Mr. Cramer considered the 1943 watch with grille "fake news".  On the other hand, Mr. Genta did design several versions of Pasha, as the recent auctions showed.

Based on these research, I'm willing to believe that Mr. Genta designed the 1985 Pasha with grille himself (without example of prior model).  I'll be happy to change my mind if there are solid evidence of an earlier designer for Pasha.  Anyhow, it is part of the fun and intrigue of watch collecting.

I think the grille is its wow factor.

Thanks for reading and the kind remarks!  Congratulations on owning the Santos De Cartier WSSA0037!  It is such a classic and elegant design!  The Santos is much less polarizing than Pasha - I agree with you on this.

The Pasha in SS case is about the same price as the Santos.  My guess is that Cartier will bring the grille to the SS Pasha soon.  Furthermore, on the secondary market, Pasha with grille in SS may be had around $3k.

Yes, but we’re discussing this one. To each their own but this one would never even make lust status much less grail on my lists. 😁

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I've been trying to refrain from adding to my collection, but if I can find a decent example in SS with the grid for that price, I'm willing to make an exception.

Thanks again for posting this, and bringing the Pasha to my attention. Although it was the grille that initially really appealed to me, after I started doing more research, I realized that I also really liked the watch itself. I was able to find a Pasha 2324, without the grill, from a friend in our local watch enthusiast group for a good price, so I took advantage of that opportunity.

Wow!  Congratulations!!  This Pasha looks classic and elegant, and very nice on your wrist.  This piece looks quite special to me and I have looked at many Pasha pieces lately.  Normally, there are only 3, 6, 9 and 12 hour marks.  You have additional 5, 10, 20, etc.  The black dial is less common too.  It is an excellent piece and I'm sure that it will catch the eyes of folks who see it.  Enjoy it and wear it in good health!

Thanks so much. I'm thrilled with it, and would never have it in my collection if it wasn't for your post sparking my interest and your comments that prompted me to look into pre owned. I like it more and more the longer I wear it. It's also the first watch in my collection that my wife really likes.  Thanks again !!

I am so happy to hear that and you are very welcome!  It is wonderful that your wife likes it too which is very important :)).  You got it from a friend in the local watch group, which is the best way to acquire a pre-owned timepiece.  Congratulations again!!
