Any thoughts on the modern Roger Dubuis Excalibur line of watches?

I recently picked up an RD Excalibur in the grey market for a good price and like the watch in general other than the fact that there are so few strap options available for the watch.

What are your thoughts on the modern Roger Dubuis Excalibur line of watches? I do think they are a bit overpriced for what they are, but the view of the openworked movement everytime I look at the wrist is just so satisfying. Would love to hear more opinion on what you guys think.

I admire the design effort and engineering that went in this piece. It is eye-catching, BUT... if I have to stare at a dial for more than a few seconds to read the time, then it's not a watch, it's jewelry. Perhaps in different light, or in person, the hands are more legible.

I have always loved their designs. Would need to win a lottery to be able to justify the expense. A bit overpriced? That is being generous...even at "used" pricing. 😉

I normally hate watches like this, but this one really tickles me right. I like it. No, I won't be able to read it at a glance, but I don't care. I think it's neat.

Nice looking watch. I like skeleton watches. They really emphasize their differences between quartz, digital and smart watch and get your mind curious about what part is doing what. This watch presents itself well.

It is definitely much more legible in person due to the highly polished hands.

Agreed they are overpriced. I am personally fan of their openworked movement display in their modern line of watches. I could never afford a double tourbillon ones, but they are truly a sight to behold.

I personally don't care much about legibility of watches as I am more of a person who appreciates the overall design on the wrist.

Same here. I love skeleton watches, but only the ones that are done correctly. I had my hands on the GP Laureato Skeleton recently, and i wasn't a big fan of it although the finishing on the dial was great.

All of their modern watches come with Geneva Seal, which is kind of cool.

No doubt, the engineering is fantastic. And I could see myself looking at the piece, purely from that perspective. But I'm not sure about the wearing experience.
