Best watch under £200? The SRPE51?

Can you buy a better watch for under £200?

I’ve had my eye on Seiko for awhile but was disappointed when I found out the SKX line was discontinued a while back. After having stumbled across this beauty, I don’t see anything with better value and quality for under £200. So let me know… should I upgrade my mere £10 Casio MQ24-1E for my first ever automatic watch - this beauty.

For reference, I’m doing my A-Levels and would look to wear this piece a few days a week.

Look at orient they are a great watch and worth the money.

You should give it a go. Start off with this as this is a decent piece. Maybe next time you can get another brand and style.

There are quite a lot of Orient branded watches at this price point (bambino, mako 2 etc.). Were there any in particular you would recommend? I’m quite keen on the Seikos versatility and the elegance of its design. Thanks! 😊

I will slowly but surely grow a watch collection. My plan is to get an F91W and the Seiko to start with, and then I might dabble with the Vostok Amphibia, Casio A158/68 and maybe a slightly different quartz. I’m only 16 so it won’t be a fast journey, but I don’t want it to be. 😄😊

That’s a great plan. Slowly but surely. This is a very slippery slope my friend, consider all your options and you’ll be on your way to an enjoyable journey.

Take a look at automatics too. There are lots of choices. 🍻

I'm currently wearing the blue dialled version (that comes with a Nato strap) of that watch. For me it's a pretty good daily "office" watch. I can dress it up or down depending on the strap. The dimensions also help it wear well.

Cheers for the comment! I am also debating whether to go with the blue dial or the sunburst grey dial. What do you reckon?

What’s your wrist size if you don’t mind me asking? I’m just trying to understand what sort‘ve size watch would work on my wrist. :)

The blue is stunning when it catches the light. But it depends on what your overall preference is. For me, where possible I go for the blue/navy dial.

My wrist size is basically 6 inches, so not very big. Usually a 40mm diameter would be a no for me, but the short lug to lug of (I think) 44mm and helped by being fairly thin for a Seiko 5 makes it very wearable for me.

I really appreciate that, thanks! My wrist size is about 6.75 inches so should be ok considering the shorter lug to lug size. Thanks again 😁😊

Hey Sam it all depends on what you are looking  for the bambino you can't go wrong with it. But the mako is a fine watch to. I have had my orient m force diver for years and I love it. If you look at my page you will see it with a orange dial. Hope I helped ✌️.

Lots of great information here, and Orient is a brand that offers a lot of value and some great looking models.

One brand that offers quite a bit of value for your money is the Islander brand from LongIslandWatch.com. All of the models have sapphire crystal, screw down crowns, and at least 100M WR. They start at $199, but often there are sales and you can get some great deals. This #ISL-134 is on sale for $137.

Both of these are $199 regularly.

Ooo I like the look of the first one. They look like good value watches. I noticed the first suggestion is on sale right now, but I’m in the UK. The conversion and shipping will surely not justify the watch?

I am pretty sure Long Island Watch has implemented a flat shipping rate of $15 to the UK that is pretty reasonable. I am not sure about any customs fees or import duties, or about currency conversion rates.

Ah ok! I will have to double check over any import charges but that’s a cool suggestion. Quite unique as well… thanks man! 😁

For £200 and your first foray into mechanical watches its a great watch, yes there's orient, pick a style, diver orient kamasu (hunt round and you'll get one under £200) or for a dress watch orient bambino,or you can have a foray into microbrands there's loads out there. But that's a decent watch, not quite a diver, not quite a dress watch, nearly gada, reliable movement, easy to regulate if needed, waterproof (cos at your age you will get wet) and looks good, though personally I would go for blue or white. Nice choice👍
