Spontaneous impulse purchase on a terrible day

Last week i had a pretty terrible day and after trying to distract myself on Chrono24 i ended up buying an old Zenith Stellina. And i didn't even care that it just had a diameter of 34mm.

Usually my watches start at 38mm and i actually wanted a King Seiko or Lord Marvel but this little Zenith was "New Old Stock", was just serviced and has a 4Hz movement 🤑. After exchanging some messages with the seller he offered a free DHL Express shipping and i accepted.

The problems from that day are fixed and it took only 17 phone calls to do so. Two days later i had my new old Zenith.

Overall i'm really excited about it. The size is not a problem. It looks a little odd but i get used to it. Beneficial is the height of only 9 mm which makes it just disappear under the sleeve. The ETA 2562 is my first manual movement, but it's great and really easy to wind up.

As far as i know it's from 1970 but i can't find any information on it. There are some list with zenith serial numbers but only until 1963. I Already contacted Zenith and they have a service where you can get a excerpt from their register but i costs 140€ so that is not a real option.

Is anyone of you familiar with the zenith serial numbers and knows from which year the serial number 01 1000 125 is? There is also a number inside of the lid: 1201 1.

There are some good deals to be had on vintage if you're willing to move down a size or two. On the serial number, iirc Zenith are particularly difficult to date, almost certainly the extract will be the only way to know.

that's too bad. i was hoping it would be as easy as with my Certina. i guess you have to pay a little extra to get the history from such a brand. i'll just say its from 1970.

looks like the trend is your friend regarding the size. but i still would't wear a diver in that size. the dial would be too tiny.

Perhaps @Aurelian or @MrBloke could help.

The size looks perfect. I’d suggest your other watches might be too big!

·

I wish that I could help. Zenith is tough.

The movement isn't an ETA 2562, such an ETA didn't exist. It's a Zenith in-house calibre 2562:

These were nicely made, sturdy and accurate movements, and especially in high-beat variants like this, their capabilities in the accuracy department shine, as movements operating on higher frequencies respond better to fine-tuning.

It's a nice piece in great condition. Wear it in good health!

Thanks a lot! These are some helpful informations. The picture of the movement looks exactly like mine. so i got a in-house calibre, awesome. another premiere here.

Merci beaucoup! the condition is really great. some very small dots/scratches on the crystal but besides that there ist nothing. astonishing for that age.
