Longines Spirit Zulu Time. Yay or Nay?

Went to the AD yesterday and checked out the new Longines Spirit Zulu Time.  Loved it, especially the black dial/bezel version.  Would have pulled the trigger but it is big 42mm, thick 14mm and heavy.   I'm finding myself more and more pulling my heavier watches off my wrist by the afternoons as they are digging into my skin.

I think it’s an outstanding watch but perhaps consider a leather strap or a NATO?

·

… actually NAT will make it thicker so nylon or leather?

·

Been thinking about this piece but with the green bezel with leather. In terms of weight for comparison is it heavier or as heavy as the Tudor black bay?

They are both heavy watches, unless you are referring to the BB58.

I personally don't like the black dial on the green bezel version as much as the all black.   The blacks are different on the two.

The thickness of the watch REALLY stands out on the nato/strap.

·

Imho the best looking longines

Really man I gotta see it personally.

I agree with mer1981 best looking Longines.  This watch has it's own character.  I think the NATO will top load the weight so much the strap will dig into your wrist.  Barton makes  a sail cloth or tropical silicone strap. Crafter Blue has many curved silicone options.  I put a curved Crafter Blue on my Seiko MM300.  I could wear the watch for days with no issue. Keep in mind the crown position is at 4 versus 3 on that watch. Less wrist dig by default. Back to the Longines,  this is killer . I'm saying go for it!

·

I'm probably going to pick the Zulu Time when it comes out as a 40mm version. I wish Longines made a drive watch that looked this good!

·

I think it may be a tad too big, but in my book Longines can do no wrong.  If the watch starts calling you, you may have no choice.  I like the bracelet it is on, not a fan of Nato straps at all.

·

I think the Zulu looks great but the 42mm is a step to large for me. The 40mm Spirit is my limit due to the lenght of the lugs.

Spot on.  I can't tell you how many times I moved on from watches I really liked, because they were too thick and heavy.  And then I realized one day that...  you can change out bracelets for leather straps!

Yay all the way. I am definitely picking up this watch for my collection.👍

·

Absolutely, but maybe on the leather strap if the weight is an issue.

·

Really do love this watch though. I’ve had my eye on it since announced.

I also favor the GS SBGM221 as a GMT but I’m one of the freaks who can’t tolerate scratches well. The Zulu‘s case brushing and bezel will likely make me less awkward when wearing. I wear a chunky 42x16mm Autavia Chrono but on leather it‘s comfortable all day, on me, so I suspect the Zulu would be as well with less invasive strap.

·

Would be awesome in a 37mm version.

·

Yea (The correct spelling of “yay”). Except for the size. At 40 or under I’d be on it in a hot second.

·

thats gorgeous watch. one of my favourite longiness 👏🏻

·

Hmmm. If it doesn't wear comfortably, it's probably best not to go for it. You'll find it difficult, if not impossible, to find a better GMT for the money. Tudor is no alternative in this case, they're even heavier and bulkier with a similar lug-to-lug.

When I took the bracelet off my 40mm Spirit, it shed quite a bit of weight, so it might be good to try on the strap version just to see how it feels.

·

I would go and try it on the leather strap. That also has micro adjustment on the fly.  But my opinion is biased

I haven't seen it in the metal but that new Zulu seems very nice.  I am tempted myself.

But it's up to you if you think it fits.  I think that lug to lug really determines that more accurately than the case diameter.  I have 42mm watches that fit fine and 40mm watches that might feel kinda large on my wrist. If you decide against it tell your AD I really wish it was a 39mm...and maybe we'll all get our wish.  :). But that new Zulu is a beauty.

·

it’s a beautiful watch but you really got to try it. It didn’t quite fit my wrist (lugs was not curved enough) so it was real bummer because I really wanted this piece.

·

Absolutely love them. 42 mm is perfect. One of very few luxury watches now that actually seem good value.

Fantastic pictures. Can I ask how it wears compared to the BB GMT or BB Pro if you have experience?

·

Wow that is a lovely watch. I know very little about Longines. But that is a timeless piece.

I have the BB GMT and it wears slightly better than it. I have a 17cm wrist so just on the edge of too big as you can see in my wristshot above.

It weighs 160g on the bracelet, the watch-head alone being 90g.

Yeah, it's a bit top-heavy!

So it’s not comfortable ?
