New Television dial watches - are there any??

Hey everyone, I’d really like to get a television dial watch. I love the retro style of them (although clearly I’m one of the few as I don’t see many brands selling them.) Any suggestions? Whilst I really like the look of the Slava above, I’m not sure I’m really comfortable buying a Russian watch at the moment. Ideally I’d like it to be automatic or mechanical and affordable (if it’s not relatively cheap then it’ll be past my price point!)

Also would love to see any that you have on your wrists, modern or vintage. Thanks!

is this also count? lol

Aliexpress is the place for hundreds of budget square watches.

That's too weird.  I was just looking at that watch online. I was surprised to see it.  Like you, I am pausing my Russian purchases until things get better.

Here is a watch that I bought for a dollar (plus shipping) on eBay:

It is an early '80's Raketa (better than a Slava).  You can find many of them on eBay for between $10 and $40 from Ukraine.  Soviet vintage watches are used and scratched and binged. But, they are also maintained.  This watch keeps time.

Edit:  A quick search of eBay indicates that prices are higher, probable due to the war, but they are relatively inexpensive.

Seiko Recraft ?

I can suggest the YEMA LED KAVINSKY SILVER LIMITED EDITION.

I can see a retro-tv style here (I hope that I am not stretching to much my imagination)

Really like these - hope they get more stock soon (don’t like the burgundy which is the only one left). Someone is trying to see a copper one on Chrono24 for 4xRRP!!! Ridiculous

Thanks, it’s a dangerous website if you only want one and not six new watches. 😉

I like the shape and Yema have a good reputation, from what I’ve heard. However, I just can’t get myself to get excited about a digital watch (which does rule out a lot from the time period these were popular).

Good to know that some of these are reliable and keep time - thanks for the info @Aurelian. I actually already have a few on my ebay watchlist - think im going pick the one I like the best and roll the dice! Out of curiosity, why Raketa over Slava?

·

Lots of smart watches have square/rectangular dials. That will be my next TV watch.

Great microbrand that just funded on Kickstarter...the Moels & Co 528...can't wait till they are released...

They’ll eventually be back in stock, I imagine. I too would refuse to pay any more than $500 for a NA35 movement based watch.

That’s a beauty! Missed it first time around but seems they are still taking orders at Kickstarter prices on indiegogo. Tempted…

I saw a Caseback Tim YT review on this watch and the main concern was that all of the images are showing the watch being worn on the right hand. The key to that being how will the crown wear if you wear the watch on your left hand. So that bears for consideration, if you intend to wear this as a daily.

My interest is more in adding it to the collection.

I love TV style watches and have a number from over the different periods. Here are a few examples from the collection:

That collection is ace! A fan of blue watches, as well? That Tiffany colour Omega really stands out.

Well, looking at Nautilus prices on the second hand market, you do not seem to be the only one in love with the 1970's TV dial look.

Not my cup of tea, I must admit

Slava was always a civilian brand. It made watches for bureaucrats and office managers. Raketa supplied watches to the military. The emphasis on ruggedness and reliability benefited their civilian watches.

Slava‘s movements were known to “wear out” after a decade or so.

The left is a Joshua and Sons, right is a small Nixon “Show Don’t Tell.”

The Nixon is available, if interested.

AND I just saw you already had one identical. BTW, how do you like the Nixon?

It's probably not strictly a TV dial watch, but I think this vintage Citizen has a similar look.

So does this Armitron Griffy.

Thanks I actually thought I'd have it done on the weekend but realized the Escape Wheel was damaged. Individual parts are near impossible to find so just ordered another damaged movement on eBay hoping the Escape Wheels is good in it. May be a while before this one gets wrapped up now :(.

Wow, it’s dwarfed by the J&S. To be fair, when I initially got it I was a bit underwhelmed as I usually like something that makes more of a statement. However, it’s so versatile, light and with 100m water resistance I never have to take it off - it gets a lot more wear than I thought it would.

Glashütte Original make/recently-made two killer television dial watches. The "Seventies Panorama Date" and "Seventies Panorama Chronograph".
