Had too much time on my hands (lol) so I made this

I got bored this evening and thought, "what if Vostok actually had a significant presence in the US, beyond watch enthusiasts?" So I fired up Adobe CC Express and made this vintage-style ad, which was heavily inspired by Volkswagen's old ads for the Beetle.

I made this under the pretense that it would've come out around the same time as the Amphibia Desert Shield in 1991-it would make sense that Vostoks would be slightly more popular during that time, because the original ones were offered to American military personnel at $99, while civvies could get them for $149. Since both the Desert Shield and all the other Amphibias are basically the same, I reckoned that they would charge the same price for both.

I also thought it would be a little funny if I tried to sell the classic 420059 Scuba Dude as a serious competitor to a 11610 Submariner, using all the tropes people outside of our crazy hobby typically assign to "luxury" timepieces; to an outsider, a 2416b is just as good as a Rolex Calibre 3135 because they have the same amount of jewels.

Awesome!  😂

Somebody should make an ad to sell people on the idea that Yugos are just as good as Porsches, because they have the same number of wheels!

This Car May Be a Lemon - Señor GIF - Pronounced GIF or JIF?

Love it - do you work in advertising?.  What type face is the heading?  It's a classic.

That's not a fair comparison. My dad's Lada lasted longer than my (one and only) Vostok.

I'm just a college kid studying journalism, lol. My dad did work in advertising when I was a kid, but that obviously doesn't count unless you consider abstract skills to be genetic. Admittedly I do know how to write some good copy thanks to what I've studied.

I used Open Sans Condensed for the body and Condensed Bold for the heading.

It's classic, looks like the old VW press ads.
