Why did you buy your last watch?

It's a very broad question I know, but was it a special occasion? On a whim?

Also why did you buy that particular watch?

For myself, I bought this Citizen Skyhawk Titanium because I got a new job. I wanted an Eco-Drive watch as it solved many of the personal issues I had with quartz, and ultimately ended up with the above because

  1. I was missing a pilot's watch
  2. The titanium felt just right
  3. The price was great

So... why did you buy your last watch?

The why's are..

I have a desire for a collection with certain criteria and it checked multiple criteria.

  1. I was missing an actual dress watch.
  2. I was missing a Timex.
  3. I was missing a birth year watch.

Last watch was the AD call for a 36mm Explorer I. I wanted both an Explorer I  and II. I had the money waiting for the watch but the purchase was totally unexpected.  Just before the Explorer purchase I purchased my first Grand Seiko Snowflake.  Always wanted a Titanium watch and GS. Have to say the Snowflake is gorgeous.  I now want a GS diver in Titanium.  Titanium is addictive

  1. I wanted a dressier watch
  2. I always wanted a Nomos (my SO already has one and I was kinda jealous about how thin and goodlooking it is)
  3. I got the last one in stock at a larger German AD and even got a 10% discount
  4. I „recycled“ the money from the PRX Chrono that I sent back 😄

I like field and exploring watches and have been looking for a SARB 017 for some time now. Since it was discontinued I felt I lost the opportunity but still wanted one. I suddenly found this second hand one put for sale at the original price and didn't waist a second to ask for an offer and here it is:

My latest purchase was the Christopher Ward Sealander GMT

I thought I was lacking a GMT. Maybe a post Covid thing that finally you might be able to travel again or maybe just a fun complication. I did a quite severe research. I finally ended up with the white version. 1) it looked great and 2) the color fitted in my collection.

Because it was shiny

The Farer Resolute for me, for my daughter's birth

  1. Wanted a Microbrand
  2. Wanted an 2nd english watch
  3. Wanted a white dial
  4. Lume is awesome
  5. My daughter is only 3 months but already has a determined personnality, I wanted a watch looking like her : luminous, gorgeous, classy but fun, versatile. The case back is engraved with her name and birthdate.

The last one was the bluetooth Casioak.  I was tempted by the review on JOMW and it replaced the previous model.  The driver for the change was twofold

  1. I disliked the negative LCD display as it was illegible
  2. I am hopeless at using the functionality of a Casio using the buttons.  The BT allows me to change timezones and set alarms without delving into the manual

The prior model was gifted to a friend

I got myself this suggess chrono.

I wanted a mechanical Chrono in my collection and since my budget was slim for this my only choice was to go with a seagull ST19 movement. Gladly you do have a lot of choices when it comes to these movements. I liked the original Seagull watch and the Studio Underdog watches but the first just didn’t do it for me and the second was asking to much for a seagull movement in my opinion (600$). And then one night laying in my bed I saw suggess was coming out with this and I instantly ordered one for me and even got a discount. I paid about 180$ for it and asked if they could throw in an extra strap basically just taking a chance. and 2 months later it got here with 3 straps and running +3 seconds a day. totally in love with this!

Ever since the Grand Seiko SBGW283 Kishun was announced, I knew i had to get it.  It literally knock off the 36mm Explorer 1 as my new grail watch.

The journey to look for it was hard. It's not limited but allocation is really strict and worse then when I got my Seiko SPB149.

Why do i feel that it would be significant?  Well it might be the final piece of my horology puzzle. With covid19 restrictions gone, I might just start travelling again.

It's funny how the world works. Many people had budget to buy their timepieces simply because of the lockdowns causing them to spend less on holidays!

The gorgeous Limited Edition Carnelian Red Sinn 556 is my last purchase. When I saw the introduction article on Hodinkee a few weeks back, I had to have it.

·

The last and current purchase is a gift to myself for my birthday and the next purchase is to balance out my porcelain/enamel dial collection…🤔

Usually I rarely have any reason or justification… 😁

·

I recently bought two watches and did so because I liked them. I am very pleased with them too. Also, I have zero self-control.

·

I was walking around Paris, looking for a Lady Datejust for my wife, and walked into the Grand Seiko boutique. I had never seen one before, and love GS, so took a look. Saw a watch I didn't even know existed, tried it on, and felt it was the most beautiful thing I had seen. So, I bought it :). I am a "research to the end of time" kind of guy, but not this time. It was just perfect for my wrist and tastes.

Sadly, I could not find a Rolex for my wife. But I came home happy! :)

·

I said I wouldn’t do it but…….. third time lucky I’ve got the Bulova moon for the third time…… the previous two times I pursuaded myself that it was too big and sold within days

this time I’m going to give it a proper go

nytime asks "So... why did you buy your last watch?"

Image
  1.      Life was seeming meaningless with out my Holy Grail watch.
  2.       My collection needed a spring drive
  3.       All of my investments are losing value with exception of watches.
  4.        My otherwise fiscally conservative wife shares the same watch collecting disease and                      allowed me to spend a stupid amount of money on a watch.

No particular reason, other than I just loved the aesthetics of the watch.

I saw, I wanted, I could get, I bought.

·

Well where do I start. I've purchased 4 watches in the past month and all for different reasons really. My new Seiko Sportsmatic was purchased as a birth year watch, so while not a new watch it was a watch purchase per-say. Being a Seiko Fan boy for over 20 years it was an obvious choice for me.

Image

The one prior to that, I had on order as they were a limited edition, so I had to wait for the delivery, but it's basically a recent purchase. What can I say, I know everyone is complaining about the recent influx of colour dials, but for Sinn watches this isn't the first time they've done this and I love the design of the 556 line up, so it was a no brainer.

Image

Then a really great friend of mine in Australia offered me the following two watches at prices that I can guarantee no one on WC would be able to resist, not only due to their prices but also because their such great watches as well. The Direnzo is a great Micro brand watch company and his watches sell out quickly and now that I own one and have been forced to wear it everyday thanks to Deeperblue for the 1WC challenge the watch is growing on me and I now know why they are so popular.

Image

The Borealis, again a very sort after Micro brand watch and now that I own one I can tell why, although I haven't been able to wear it so far due to the 1WC challenge I can admire it from the watch box it arrived in, it will make it's way onto my wrist at some point.

Image

And there you have it, my recent watch purchases and why I purchased them.

Ohh how I love that watch and the colour is breath taking, it was my next choice when buying my latest Sinn 556B, if I only had the funds I would definitely have both 💯

About a week ago I put the minimum bid on an eBay watch with no intention of getting into a bidding war for it.  I did not put extra $ into the bid, just the minimum.  I have won $1 auctions this way.  It was mildly interesting because I hadn't seen one before. I sometimes bid on things just to see who is heavily invested in acquiring a piece.  I didn't go on eBay for four or five days and was very surprised when someone actually wanted me to pay for it.

On Monday this will arrive:

(Seller's picture and hand.)

The moral of this story is that I am a compulsive idiot and can't be trusted with even small sums of money.

The best that I can tell the brand would re-case movements for "railroad" watches at the beginning of the 20th Century.  None of their "railroad" watches were ever certified.  It looks like they may have tried to transition to wrist watches in the 1950's (this looks like a watch from that decade). Perhaps the oddest part is that this Swiss movement was cased by a company in the center of the watch making world, Topeka, KS.

Love it, and it sounds like the price was right. Great pick up mate.

·

I bought mine because:

  1.  I wanted to add a green piece to the collection.
  2.  I wanted to add a flieger to the collection.
  3.  The price was reasonable.

·

because i like the idea of this collaboration, i like both brands, price isnt too bad… only turn off is the lack of availability

This was the last for me.

I just loved it, perfect size, more than enough WR, high quality with a great movement.

Mainly for me, the more unusual shape with its dodecagon bezel (or would you say bi-hexagon?) is a stand out point.

I bought a Felipe Pikullik last autumn, mainly because I was confirmated. But I also wanted a dressier watch, something more high end and I loved (and love) his work and his approach to watchmaking in general. But I think these reasons are mostly just excuses to yourself for buying a new piece :)

·

My most recent purchase was an Omega Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker. I had been considering adding a high accuracy quartz watch to my collection, which consists mostly of mechanical pieces. I had initially been looking for a GS SBGP001, but a friend happened to have the X-33 for sale. Omega is one of my favorite brands, and chronographs are my favorite complication, so I thought that this killed two birds with one stone, and was a great complement to my other Speedies. It's also my first titanium watch, and every time I pick it up I'm amazed at how light (yet solid) it feels.

Not in the market for new watches at all, but found his LE Edox piece online a couple of months ago and it was such an outrageous deal on a really unique watch that I decided to bite. Already an all-time favorite after this short amount of time.

My last purchase was a Timex Secret Agent Snoopy.

My rationale goes back to the introduction of the MoonSwatch.  Despite all the hype and raving about it, I could recognize that it was an expensive plastic piece of junk Swatch with fancy marketing.  But I connected with the idea that inexpensive, fun watches have a place in my collection.  I liked the concept.

When I saw the Snoopy in a Toronto department store, I just bought it.  I didn’t even think about it.  And it was on sale too.

I haven’t worn it or even taken the plastic off yet.  It’s just a cheap fun piece to have that’s a solid, quality, durable watch in contrast to the plastic fantastics.

Image

I've owned that exact watch. Felt slightly too small for me, so I moved it on. But I absolutely loved the look and the 'vibe' of the thing. At 42mm I would have kept it forever.

·

My last purchase was this Laco Oliv Flieger. I'd been wanting a Flieger for some time, I also happened to be missing a German watch in the collection, and I loved the look of this special edition.

Image

·

The last watch I purchased has not yet been made. However I purchased it because I had design input for the watch and it's a special edition (number). I decided to purchase the Nomos Watch Club 36 in celebration of my 40th birthday in a few days!

Wow everything about this watch its spot on the detail and color Casio pulled it off again.
