Strap size for 1978 tank must

If i get a new strap, what is the right dimensions? Also what is the mechanism for changing the straps on these watches? Can i do it at home?

You should invest in a caliper. Will be very useful for measuring lugs, etc. Eyeballing your Cartier, it looks like the same size and era as mine, which has 18mm lugs. Modern Tank large typically as 19mm. It's really difficult to judge from your photo whether yours is small or large (that's what she said).

HAHAHAH love it. its the old large model. 23x30 i believe

where can i buy a caliper? is that what you use to swap out straps?

The caliper is to measure the lugs so that you can get the right strap. You can replace straps at home but, meh, I wouldn't practice on that one. You're going to need a spring bar tool. If you're brave enough and want to try at home, this is what a spring bar tool looks like:

thanks

It's 17mm. You'd also have to order a longer length if your wrist is over 7" because of the shorter lug to lug. Try to get straps with quick release bars as it makes it so easy to switch between different straps to change the look. If you're not going custom, the brand Hirsch is best (get the long length). You'll also need a spring bar tool to remove the strap that's currently on there. Very easy to do from home and lots of how to videos on YouTube. Good luck and enjoy your tank!

PS. I'll be in Porto shortly. Any suggestions for vintage watch shops to visit?
