Panerai Radimir ☢️

Calendar day 2 of 24 🎅 Today we are having a look at an Italian heavy hitter with real world military significance from WW2 and pop culture presence via action heroes like Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Unique and recognizable design from an old world brand who was one of the pioneers of divers and lume technology. Does the Bro-Factor😎 and fascist ties diminish it's status or does it transcend and rise above those factors?

To Legendary then?

Yeah after ruminating on it or the last hours I decided that Panerai has reached legend status.

  • The silhouette is instantly recognisable.
  • It spawned a whole fake/ copy/ homage industry.
  • The story of Stallone finding one in a shop while shooting in Italy is one of the legends/ lies that all watch people tell each other.

Ergo: This watch has reached legend status.

The Radiomir is the only line of Panerai I like.  It's a classic.

Combined with it's historical role! Yes, I agree even though I don't know if it's my cup of tea 😅

Yes that's exactly my feelings, I don't want one but it's a watch that gets my nod of approval - when I see it on another, bigger wrist 😎

It is a legend. I don't like it though and, probably, will never want one.

My favourite Panerai from a short list. It's the only Panerai I like!

Definitely a classic.

·

Classic line to the point there's entire collections by several brands with that case shape.

Though I thought Stallone was the one popularizing this? I don't recall Arnie with mechanical watches in his movies, I think.

·

Definitely one of the most recognizable classic watch designs! 😉

Gotta echo everything said by @robwei. Love it or hate it, it’s an absolute legend. Recognizable from a glance and responsible for a whole sub-genre culture. Hard to look away when I see someone wearing one.

Arnold wore a Panni in Eraser I think but also in interviews. Story goes that Sly bought watches for some of his "equals", Arnie being one of them. Later on he has been spotted with several

I am so ambivalent that my only comment is to make sure that everybody knows that the Stallone meets watch love story is hokum.

Doubtlessly the most famous military watch. Also, the most beautiful imho. And you gotta admit the stories (true or false) of Panerai are much more diverting than those of "regular" watch brands - - with Pams, you get myths, secrets, gossip, fakes, scandals, hustlers, Hollywood, stoopid ideas, skeletons in closets, and fascists in black rubber suits riding giant iron phalli! What's not to like :)

If you - random reader at some future time - are new to Panerai, google "Perezcope" for all the juicy bits!

But seriously, Panerai, all is forgiven, as long as you keep building the "basic" models. Love my 183.

That might be true, but when did a actor ever let the truth ruin a good story.

Also, stubled over an acticle from a couple of years written by you (somewhere else) today while doing research for tomorrows poll.

The Radiomir is the OG design, albeit the Luminor is the more popular PAM. It is a true classic IMHO.

An original one is unobtainable.  Fortunately, Officine Panarai makes some great modern Radiomir choices.  I prefer the 1950 case series myself, its perfection IMHO.
