Cartier Tank 🇫🇷

Calendar day 6 of 24 🎅The grand dad of all fashion watches, loved by rich ladies, grand dads and fancy watch enthusiasts alike. Imitated by many but the brands unique history makes it special. Have the copies diluted the importance of the rectangular shape? And is this just a watch for old folks?

To answer your questions. No. And. No.
I love this watch.

·

Lots of people refer to rectangular watches as tank watches, that's enough for me to vote for the legend status

·

Amazing watch. Can't wear it. It's too classy for such unclassy me.

To me it’s legendary alright.

·

Legend.  It can be spotted from across the room.  And hidden just easily.

There are watch designs probably half the age that I think are decades stale despite despite constant new versions and limited editions. The Tank has no such problems.

I hate that crown with all my might, but it's a faithful classic.

Is it the XL?

There are things that so perfectly capture a design concept that they will never go out of style.  Levi’s, Wayfarer sunglasses, Coco Chanel’s little black dress, and yes the Tank. When A. Warhol wears it just for looks and M. Ali wears it when he’s sparring in the ring, that feels like legendary status. My pref is the OG Tank in 18k yellow gold.  I just wish I could afford one 🤣

This is the most influential watch design in the brief history of little wristlets. It single handedly changed the industry from clumsy fixed lug pocket watches to be worn on the wrist to elegant rectangles. The rectangle case dominated the watch market for more than two decades. No other watch has had such reach. Eventually, round won out, but the rectangle never lost its cache.

I voted "classic" because of my quibble with what the word "legendary" is evolving to mean. Legendary used to be those things that came from the deep mists of time and could not be said to have existed: Paul Bunyan, Bigfoot, Atlantis, Prester John, King Arthur, Roland, that sort of thing. It was closer to mythological than to grand and famous. It would have made no sense to talk about a legendary actor, because clearly that actor existed. That cow left the barn many years ago. Language evolves.

With it’s history and timeless design, this watch is an icon.  It was also cool how Cartier basically undercut itself with the release of the tank must solar beat, making the public happy - not exactly the business model of some other watch brands (especially recently!).

·

I don't like it, but there is no denying its legendary status.

·

I voted legendary and agree with every word you wrote in the post. I understand their significance but overall just not for me.

·

Timely post for me. Lately, I have been lusting over this watch.  As a Timex only collector it will be the most expensive watch I own, but something is calling me to make this my one and only watch and keep the rest in a box for memories.  I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I would wear this watch as an everyday watch, no matter what I'm wearing.   For the record, I voted legendary!!

Dooooo it

Time will tell!  Pun intended!

·

Not only is it legendary (iconic?).. it’s the most wearable watch I own - and that’s almost always dressed down. It sees the most wear and seems to go with everything. In short - I love it.

(“large” solarbeat for reference)

For me legendary means that the presence of homages merely serves to enhance, rather than detract from the reputation of the original.

If the tank doesn't qualify, then no watch does.

Stunner 👌 Seems the SolarBeat is hard to find? It's a no-brainer when the Must quartz costs the same or more.

·

I don't like the design personally, but it seems to be popular enough that people like it.

So not for me, but it's clearly the perfect watch for someone else.

·

Due to some of the reasons already given my vote is that it's legendary, but not for me.  I'm the type that likes to "blend in" and just can't see myself wearing something flashy like this.  Strangely, and maybe hypocritically, I could see myself wearing a Santos on certain occasions.

The blackes out DLC Santos 🔥 Don't get me aroused 😜

FASHION WATCH verging on horology! Irrelevant, sorry! 🤣 My wife has a vintage one with her jewelry. 🤣 Novice hype and ignorance is bliss. Enjoy your Cartiers, CWOM, IMHO. 🥳

IMHO, it is a case of starvation in the midst of plenty! Adios.

Few watches have a case design so iconic that we use their name in reference to homages. Like Calatrava, Submariner, and Tank. There's a Seiko Tank, Longines Tank, Omega Tank, Rolex Tank. If you have any respect for the risk-takers and innovators in watchmaking, there is only one Cartier Tank. Truly Legendary.

I always think the cabuchon crown looks like an onion crown that got cold. (That being said, the Tank speaks for itself. It's a legend/classic).

I'm enjoying these polls, are you going to make a summary of the results at some point?

Christmas Eve 😊 So last vote is the 23rd. Summary or maybe a showdown 🤠?
