A personal journey around the Rolex Explorer

I just published a video about the watches I considered, got and even sold in my quest for the Rolex Explorer alternative.

My friend, that was indeed an amazing video. A great story about your journey. I think Rolex could take it, uncut, to their marketing department and say why aren’t we capable of doing this? Very nice👌👏👍

The Blackbay 36 is often compared to the Explorer ☺️ Have considered it myself. I like the new silver dial 👌 But I'm not sold on the movement... Great video!

Excellent video my friend and finding out what watch size suits you best is all part of the journey in watch collecting. I'm a huge fan of Sinn and have 3 in my collection and would love to add more, I find the size at 38mm perfect for my wrist and their build quality, for me anyway, justifies the price.

There are so so many watches with the design elements of the Rolex Explorers but not direct copies. Personally I would like a Seiko Alpinist next to my collection at some point in the future, affordable and it has it's own design and heritage elements that make it stand out from the rest of the explorer.

Such great words of wisdom my friend, very insightful and correct. Time does fly, it's gone in the blink of an eye. So enjoy the watch you want to wear 🙏

What an amazing video, really beautifully done. 👏 I loved hearing about your journey and how the ups and downs led you to where you needed to be. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ❤️

Wow! Thanks a lot for the compliment. Guess Rolex knows the passion their watches will spark and will people tell their stories alone, hehehe.

I did check the BB36 at the same AD I got the Explorer and have to confess that it seems to be a great watch. Haven't talked about it because although I considered it I was more into the hoping Tudor would re release the Ranger. But meanwhile the new BB36 looks a very competent one.

Thanks a lot for your words. Yes as I was able to get the SARB017 I'm not focused on the Sinn 556 A RS. I have been wanting that watch for so long that I now it would be great to have a Deutshe exploring (well, it's a pilots watch but you know what I mean), the Japanese icon and the Explorer to have a better and more complete experience of this genre of adventure watches.

Thanks a lot. It has been a lot o work, but given the response I'm getting, quite worth the effort. Now I'm preparing the one year review but first have to publish some fist impressions in my Spanish web page about watches.

What a wonderful video! Thank you.

One thing that might be of interest: some brands on Ali make Explorer homages where you can customize the logo to make them more your own. For example, this one is in the style of "your watch", with added colour variants and a choice of 4 movements; this one by Tandorio is also based on an Explorer, but a different model, and you can choose between 3 movements.

·

Really lovely video.

·

Enjoyed the video and loved your journey.

Very nice video my friend! Love the content and presentation. Plus the candid voice-over really brings out that "reality" vibes unlike DJ-type voice dubbing. Love the accent too btw.

My Explorer-type watch is also from the Rolex/Tudor stable which draws its heritage from the Tudor Ranger II -- the North Flag. Too bad it has been recently discontinued. I believe you can still obtain a good pre-owned unit but prices have increased tremendously since discontinuance.

Thanks for your comment. This was a pretty tough video to make to be honest. Took me a lot of time. The North Flag is a great contribution to this thread. I did see it at the AD a couple of years ago and really was impressive. At the day I was more interested in the Ranger Heritage but this one sure is a nice one by its own merit.

Excellent video! I’d like to see more videos with this type of format. We’ll done!

It goes without saying, but here it goes… the Rolex Explore is a superb watch. Enjoy it in good health 🙂.

Thanks. This was a tough one to do, but hope to make more soon. I'm already working on the new one about the one year experience review of the Explorer.

Thoughts on the 40 @marioap ?

Thoughts on the 40 @marioap ?

Well, I haven't seen it in the metal, but seems to be a scaled up version of the 36, so, as a matter of proportions of the watch itself it should be alright. As with the 36, the odd lug distance is a boomer, but in appearance is similar to the 36. I reckon that if you prefer larger sizes, this should fit the bill perfectly.

·

My wrist size is sort of similar to yours and I prefer smaller watches... Was wondering now that the bigger is available again, would you go for it. 😉

Yes, if I started all again, having to decide between the 36 and 40, I'd go 36 all the time. It's just the size I like most for this type of watches. Elegant, under the radar, comfortable...

·

Thanks my friend - I was offered the 36 and it's on hold with a partial payment. I was 2nd guessing it, but this feedback is encouraging (as I keep going back to 36 for me being the right one - even with a 7.5" wrist)

·

Both sizes will work. At the end of the day is a matter of personal preference. I personally prefer smaller for this watch as it is the classic size, but again, the larger one would work too.

Beautifully produced video and very interesting
