Aaaalrighty, let's discuss a vintage inspired watches yet again

So, i guess i've found my watch preference - watches that are looking good today, but could be rocked a while ago, when world was a simpler happier place and no one judged you for having martini for lunch and gin for dinner. i'm yet to decide if i'm a romantic, or an old-fashioned hipster or a pretentious jerk, but for now - what's your favourite vintage inspired timepieces? I'm particularly interested in GTMs and desk divers, but any other suggestion of a watch which can compliment a vinyl crackling, niche musical instruments and craft beer is highly appreciated.

Faux-patinas, gilt dials, thin bezels, thick arrow hands - it's time to unleash the beast.

It would be nice to keep a price range below 2.5-3k.

Lets be pretentious hipsters together!

The Joseph Bulova Series has a number of watches that hearken back to days of yore! 😉

thats actually brilliant idea. Why am i always forgot the Bulova? Frank Sinatra is also a great vintage inspired collection!

And an actual vintage Accutron is also an option tbf) One with a transparent dial, very cool

Don't apologize, just wear what you like. Anyone who would judge your watch is working out their own garbage.

I just posted this Junghans Meister Driver Handaufzig (handwind) in another thread on German watches but it also fits here as a contemporary watch with early automotive DNA.

·

My Pagani’s are so fauxtinaed up that they even have a fifty plus year old mechanism for holding the bezel in place…

Oh hang on, doesn’t rolex still use the old ‘hole an a bit of wire’ technology too?

·

Why not just proper vintage? If you’ve got that much to play with just go in studs high…

The new Spaceviews are also under 3k and look pretty retro.

To weigh in on your original question, the Lorier Hyperion or Neptune are just 👌👌👌

Everything from Lorier is drool worthy, if you’re into mid-century watch design.

·

Yep, their Chrono moonphase is one I look at every now and then . . . I waffle btw thinking it looks too busy to being classy as hell.

·

I really like what Nivada Grenchen is doing.

I love the Tudor Ranger with its pukey faux aged patina and matte dial but it’s a bit more than $3k, though not much. Really my vote goes to the Christopher Ward Aquitaine line. It’s a fifty fathoms homage with great dimensions and a bit of its own flavor for me. I have the bronze version which feels about as fake vintage as it can for me.

So true, came so close to pulling the trigger on the black legend diver

Those watches are on my radar for a while now! I've been thinking SPB147, i think they are very similar. I don't want to overload my collection with seiko tho, but maybe it's just stupid, because i actually trying to find something similar to this watch, but without 'Seiko' on the dial.

I guess i should just buy it. Nothing wrong with Seiko anyways)

I bought this Seiko to scratch the itch after selling my BB58. The SPB239 just has mute gilt accents on the bezel, letters and minute track plus the hands are half polished/brushed style. It is more subtle and personally not too much gold accents for me unlike the polished gold hands on the SPB147.

The Seamaster 57' reissue also is a great option if you are looking into upper end of watches. If you are not in a hurry to buy and don't mind saving up, that watch is a great option too.

yeah, speedy reissue is awesome from what i've seen on the internet, but in case of Omega and a higher end watches in general - i'd rather go with a true vintage. I pretty much adore the vintage DeVilles and Cosmics from Omega, alongside with Universal Geneve Polerouters or Tudor Princes.)

While i've spent a huge chunk of time looking on a vintage and neo-vintage classics online, the moder vintage inspired stuff kinda flew over my head completely.)

A lot of very nice watches on this thread and thanks for sharing your perspective on different 62MAS reissues. My interest in this model comes from an itch for BB58, i've found some BBs on a used market and i have a Rolex+Tudor AD in my city, so the availability isn't a problem, but i'm not ready to wear a watch with such a price tag. I'm still getting used to wear a 1-1.5k watches, so a very 'toolish' aesthetic of a SPB14 series (or a SPB239, i would definitely take it into consideration) really speaks to me at this point)

Just to throw an obscure micro in there, there are the overlooked Geckota Sea Hunters:

Descent specs and pretty unique. Don't expect to get any brand cache, it's really about being that pretentious hipster wearing a watch barely anyone else has hahaha.

But honestly Lorier gets my vote overall.

yeah, you know your hipster game mate and you know the rules of it pretty well!)

Because I know what I like from vintage and neo-vintage department. I also know a couple of modern watches I’d love to wear (spoiler - their designs are also very “traditional”), but the vintage inspired scene and specially a micro brands in this category - it’s a completely new thing to me and I wanna take a look around.)

I‘m a huge fan of Nivada‘s vintage inspired reissue of the Chronomaster. Hence I bought one 😇

That's a cool one.

·

I'll second the Christopher Ward C65 line, but I recommend the Dune.

Image

It's a 38mm GADA based on the 41mm Aquitaine. I have barely had this off my wrist since I got it a couple weeks ago.

I think they're oftentimes overlooked. One (maybe the only) American watch company left. I don't love everything they put out, but, what I have of theirs, I truly love. Their vintage ones are fantastic, especially the Accutrons.
