Casio F-91 Army Green Review

If you're into retro digital watches, you've likely seen the tons of reviews in YouTube and everywhere. So, I won't talk about the specs too much.

I grew up in the 80s and 90's and I don't remember owning a Casio digital watch. I do remember borrowing from friends several times and being a "cool dude" even for a moment.

I've only used the watch about 4 times, and I am slowly getting used to it being tiny, light, and no "bling" whatsoever. I don't mean that in a negative way. It's just that my current watches are all steel, with one huge (47mm) digital Timex. It's funny that I thought a small watch would make my 6.25-inch wrist bigger. But it actually makes it look smaller! I guess this is all because this is totally "new" to me.

I chose the Army Green colorway because quite a number of the younger people in the office have this (or the A168) in black resin or silver bracelet. Also because this green is "matte" from afar, then up close, you see the metallic splatter. Photos won't really show the true color. You have to see it for yourself when you go to a physical store, which I did. My 2nd choice would have been the Silver case, which has a similar effect.

Okay, the light is terrible. And I'm a fan of Indiglo and the wannabes. Reviewers have said that it's part of the retro-appeal because it's exactly the same as the one in the 90s. But I really think they should change the light to the same one used on their newer retro-style models.

Several online stores offer it and I found it at an unbelievable sale price (>USD$13) from an authorized dealer.

It's not fully broken-in yet, but I'm already feeling like a "cool dude" again!

  • Army Green colorway is cool and executed well.
  • It's high school cool!
  • No-brainer price.
  • It makes my small wrist look smaller
  • A bit difficult to fit alternative straps
  • Terrible backlight (though it's part of the retro appeal)

The already classic F-91W gives off such a GI Joe (80's Hasbro era) vibe to me.

Saw it on a friend and asked him to let me try it on, he was surprised! I think it's really cute and cost only £9 in the UK.

My fear is I will tire of it very quickly and not use it but I am surprised at how much I was drawn to it.

I want to wear my F91 so bad, but it’s just too damn small. I have 7 inch wrists and it looks like a child’s toy on me. My wife wears it very often and it looks great on her. The W217H is the alternative, but I just don’t get that retro vibe from it. I just dont connect with it.

It's certainly not for many moods/outfits. But I find that keeping it and fitting it into those few moments are worth more than the price 👍.

Looks like it's more for her, then 😀. Enjoy seeing it on her. I let my skinny 14-year old son wear it yesterday, and it looked cool, half-imagining looking at my teenage self.
