Thoughts on Christopher Ward as a brand?

Christopher Ward is a value proposition for good specs on paper. However, it can be a yay or nay for passionate enthusiasts, such as you all on WatchCrunch. So tell me, what do you think about Christopher Ward, and have you had the experience to handle their watches in person?

Pictured here is my C60 Trident Anthropocene, a frosted sapphire dial that, upon closer inspection, reveals the movement of the watch. Most prominently, you can see the date wheel in some pictures, and casted shadows from the applied elements on the dial. It's a massive contrast to my Orient Maestro, which has a display case back and more dressy vibes, but it makes this watch the perfect two-watch pairing with the Orient, in my opinion. Let me know what your thoughts are down below!

Also I'm a massive cars and hotwheels fan, so let me know if any of you out there exist too!

I love CW and think that for the price you'd be hard pressed to find anything as well made. I have owned 5, and I still own 4. I sold my C63 GMT LE, mostly because I don't particularly like GMTs.

The most common complaints I've see regarding the brand are the name, and the styling, both of which are entirely subjective things.

Love their new logo, didn't like the old one.

Also, whenever CW is mentioned, I can't help but remember the guy here on Watchcrunch who went to the same school as a guy named Christopher Ward. Lmao

Completely agree, their new logo is a lot more slick, but call me sentimental since my old logo "Christopher Ward" still wins my charm.

Absolute dedication! Got a photo of the four?

That hour chime was a super cool release! Might just be on my radar for future picks...

·

I'm a big fan of the brand. Don't own one yet but will do in the future. That latest chiming watch looks amazing and actually relatively good value?

Highly encourage at least taking a look at their watches in person if you can---more access to them in the UK than in the states for sure.

I have one CW piece, the Sandhurst field watch (Series 2). Great quality for the price. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

·

I have a CW watch (C60 trident pro 600) and couldn't be happier with its quality, comfort and beauty! CW is doing an amazing job 👌🏼

·

I have been interested in them for a long time and their designs have just started to attract me enough to want one. I also like that they have been around long enough to give some hope that they will be around for long enough to support service in the future. Their new Sandhurst Series 2 field watch and 300m diver are in my head pretty deep right now. The glossy ceramic bezel might keep me away from the diver but the field watch is looking good pending how it wears on the wrist (38mm field watches sometimes feel slightly too big to me, like the Hamilton Khaki Mech or Sinn 556).

They are lovely and I would love a C63 GMT , probably white dial or Black?

Styling is 👌 for those pieces

The thinness on the new 300m diver is much more appealing than my current Chrustopher Ward, but those field watches (and their military-inspired pieces) are such a beauty to look at. Their Aquitaine releases were also really cool and definitely something I wanted to see in-person.

Can't go wrong at all with those. I loved the styling but found it too close to the 216570 Rolex Explorer/Grand Seiko equivalent, so I wanted to feel a little different and got the Anthropocene above! Although, that does make me feel obligated to do more macro shots of the dial...

Agreed and on the thinness of the 300m. They seem to have found a real sweet spot for wearability, especially with such a great size range from 38-40-42. The Aquatine range is really neat and I like the original design (just a bit big and I think I must have a thing for matte rotating bezels only). The new field Sandhurst and pilot Cranwell have my serious attention. I would really like to try them on.

I almost purchased this exact watch recently but went with the C65 Aquitaine GMT in Orca Black. I have found that their watches are superb for any price. However, at this price of $1,200 - $1,500, you're looking at a phenomenal value.

·

Fantastic watches for the price point, have followed them from start up, have 5 CW watches left, 2 are 14yr old and worn once! brought another few weeks ago with £100 discount voucher! dont hesitate, great package all round.....

·

I like them as a brand but i just hate the hour hand. I have the worn and wound sandstorm because the hour hand is different. It is super high quality

·

I miss the Christopher Ward text logo, the current tween flag logo at 12 has taking away the vibes this watch once had.

·

I'm interested, but haven't yet gone there.  Like the Sealander, but something about the very spear-like hands and trident keep stopping me.  Intrigued by the Bel Canto, but that might be more admiration than acquisition for me.  Fan of the new logo/branding, btw.

Not a real-car person, but I did love Hot Wheels growing up.  However, not as much as Matchbox cars.  I still miss my red Jaguar. or was it Hunter?  Going back over 50 years, here.

100% agree. To be fair, the more and more I see sports watches with the basic arrow-style hands, the more I feel like it's a cop-out for adaptibility of handsets between their products.

Oh interesting! I do think Matchbox don't get as much love as they deserve. Don't get into the Hotwheels hobby nowadays though, it's full of scalpers, greed, and disappointment.

I have three CW’s. They are excellent quality. Here’s my CW Jumping Hour.

I just got my c60 Trident Pro 300 last month and it is definitely one of my favorite watches. It has opened my eyes to some of the bigger quality differences in mid-tier watch making vs. Lower-tier pieces and homages. I consider this my “hold me over” piece until I can buy my Seamaster Professional 300, a long-term grail piece for me. But I honestly expect to keep it forever. I really love their design language. They’re finally adopting the new logo really was the final thing I needed to see before I sprung for one. Now I’m just debating whether I will buy a Sealander or wait and spring for a Monta Noble instead. I know the Monta is quite a bit nicer finished, but the price is 2x too.

100% agree, I don't care what other watches I have in my collection. I think my C60 Trident is such a solid watch spec-wise, and interesting to look at, with the significance that it's my grad watch that it'll be a staple of my collection. Not to mention, it's a great go-anywhere do-anything watch for my current (humble) collection of three watches.

I've likewise had the thought of maybe buying another Christopher Ward watch, but I'm trying to discipline myself to explore and live with other watch brands on the wrist. Monta seems like a great value brand too, and I was very close to picking up their Skyquest GMT vs. my C60 GMT.

I am actually cross shopping the sand hurst series 2 and the monta noble in anthracite. they both have quick adjustment clasps and similar size diameter. I do like the light catcher case a lot because it reminds me of the Seiko Sarb017 case throughout the midline.. 1 is cost (CW) and the other is regulated both with selittas. And I believe the same water resistance.

The main thing is how will I plan to wear these... I love both dials for their own reasons. The anthracite noble has a great play with the light and shimmers meanwhile the sandhurst has lured arabic numerals. I bought a seiko sarb033 when I saw it discounted on amazon during 2020 instead of buying the series 1 sand hurst which I am happy about. because this series 2 I think has more personality.

That being said, If I'm adding another watch to my collection and I already have a polished black dial watch with date, would the monta take away from my carb I will never sell (spent the first 2 years of my sons life wearing it and letting him listen to the winding). Whereas the CW is cost certified and has a different vibe completely. Maybe I am worried if I buy one of these, I won't continue to chase the Rolex explorer 1 which I rather love 3 6 9 on the dial. but the Ward has 3 6 9 and 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11 12 lol

Cant really go wrong in the world of watches if you smile every time you look for the time :)

I definitely think Monta is on a different level for finishing. I adore my Trident, but am also very into the Monta Noble and their Skyquest GMT as an affordable GMT Master II alternative. At this point I may just be saving up for my Seamaster Professional 300. I have wanted one since the 90s and I’m in a good spot to consider it.

Thanks for the feedback. I love how thin the Monta is just not the lug to lug length for my wrists. It's ok but towards the very edge of comfort. I guess levels of finishing in regard to value are subjective. And I'm so trying to figure that out myself.

I know it's certain price levels you should have a certain level of finishing but where does it end before you're buying a $50,000 watch because it has the best lol

Needless to say, still gotta get past the dune vs Sandhurst debate before it takes on the noble at twice it's price because for the nobles price range, I'm very likely and willing to pop straight up to a BB58 and in that case, is it better to buy that than the wards and a noble? Get the matte dial and no date of a Sandhurst, better finishing, and a timing bezel for still under 12mm and 47 L2L.

Such a fun hobby

They are a great watch.

I have 3 now & the quality is fantastic.

I recommended them to a friend who has paneri & tudor in his collection & we both agree that the quality is superb.

I like them. I wish I could have picked up the recent CW with the chime, but had other things to spend my money on.
