This or that? Longines Spirit 37mm vs IWC Mark XVIII LPP?

Hey guys, I currently own the 40mm IWC MARK XVIII LPP, and I have been loving the watch. The only downer is that at almost 51mm, the lug to lug distance is a tad too long. The Longines 37mm Spirit caught my eye as an aviation watch with a much more manageable lug to lug measurement, and also with superb finishing for the price point. I am currently considering letting go of my IWC for the Longines, but I would be interested to hear what the community has to say about this decision. I feel like I would be sacrificing bit of brand cache for better fitting/wearability. Please let me know your thoughts!

thanks for that, i actually have and the only reason why its not on my mind is because it has a lot of polished surface compared to the LPP 40mm, i would prefer a mostly brushed/satin finished case haha.

gotcha that makes sense if you want a dressier piece

Brands and watch models aside for a moment.  One watch fits and the other one doesn’t.  Easy decision with out brand and model consideration.

yeah defo mate, i can definitely see the 36mm being a good functional dress piece, but as a toolish watch it is a bit too shiny hahaha.

i hear you and that makes a lot of sense, but how do we then navigate the brand and model conversation once that is added back into the mix, or are you suggesting that i leave brand and model consideration out? thanks!

I’ve never been a big fan of IWC. I have wearability issues with their lug lengths.  They often use movements that are only as goo as Longines anyway.  I haven’t been able to make the value equation in my head work for IWC.

Longines has the perfect confluence of design, comfort and price, in my mind. They get all the small design details just right that makes them  very comfortable and easy to wear daily.

It would be an easy decision for me.

I looked at an IWC Mark XVIII and a Longines Spirit a few hours apart recently. While i only handled them for a few min each, the IWC definitely seemed a bit more refined. The printing and hands were more crisp. The Longines was very nice, but didn't hit the same way as the IWC.

Have you considered the IWC Spitfire?
