I say just buy it now. I don't know your budget and what you can afford but $498 AUD straight from Japan sounds reasonably good to me.

Wait, I'm sure it's a great watch, but Seiko always sells for well under RRP after a short time.
Oh wow, that’s looks superb. If you want it and, importantly, can afford it, then go for it. If budget is tight leave for now & try & pick up in the sales later in the year. As long as it’s not a special or limited edition you know it’ll remain around for a while.
Unless you’re traveling and have an immediate use case, I say wait. Not only will it let you save some money for the next piece, it will confirm that you actually want the watch.
Say u get a discount between 50-100$
Is the early satisfaction worth it? In 6 months when u have the watch for a while. Will you be glad u saved the money and waited? Think about other watches where u were in a similar situation. If it won’t matter to you in 6 months that you payed more..go for it.

Mulled it over for a couple of days. Even if this is just a Seiko 5, I don't anticipate that they will be discounted anytime soon. When I reached out to my goto dealer in Japan, he offered the watch to me below MSRP. From there it was a no brainer... I pulled the trigger on a SBSC003 (SSK003).
I bought SSK001 yesterday. I paid about 360 USD here in BKK :)
