Ultimate GMT: which is your go to

Scenario: you are traveling with the family. Some places are familiar and some pure adventure. You need a watch, a go to GMT so you don’t miss zoom meetings whilst adventuring the unknown. You have a budget to get a watch, what do you get “new”. Sky is the limit.

You want a go anywhere do anything GMT watch? I'd go with choice "E" the Sinn U2. you can go cave diving, mountain climbing and still be on time for that Zoom meeting.

I just put calendar reminders in my phone, and wear whatever watch I feel like each day. My phone's calendar automatically adjusts event times based on the time zone they are set for.

I’ve made my choice. Your poll choices exclude me.

I have you, but you somehow attract too much attention so you can’t go anywhere. It’s not safe

My choice of GMT…

I have this. Unfortunately, in some places it attracts far too much attention.

Yes. I specifically left out uncle Rolle and uncle Tudor.

This is my go to in some countries. I have more than one. Hahaha

I usually don't put myself in such locations. But work or other vocations sometimes puts us in suck places without a choice.

That's unfortunate.

For me the ultimate travel GMT is my GW-M5610U. The U modules fixed the one issue that was really bothering me with G-Shocks and the other improvements, together with the extraordinary comfortable combi-bracelet, made it a winner. Another advantage is its egalitarian look because no one know how loaded or broke you are when you wear a square.

I own A, B, and D. The last family vacation, I only took my Apple Watch.

·

There is alway this as an option. It is most definitely a GADA GMT, and you're not going to worry about leaving it on the beach or having it stolen.

I just did 10 days in Europe. Brought my GM-2100 and AE1200WHD because they were perfect for my needs (instant is good) and a good bit more stylish than my 5610 (hey, it was Paris and Vienna). I also wore my Seiko Flightmaster set to CE time with the second dial set to my home time. Harder to set up but worth it.

And no worries about theft or mugging for a watch.

GS quartz GMT for sure.

Accurate, not big, not small, sits on wrist as second skin and always ready to go.

And polished indexes legible in any conditions, even in very very low light.

·

I'm going with this one this week...but that's because I'll be hanging with the good folks at Montblanc...

Image

I usually travel with this one because it's a fantastic quartz chronograph GMT and made from titanium so it's super light and super tough...

I also love my Time & Tide x Bamford GMTs...

But my favorite is probably this one...

Loving all the pics in the comments here! Very hard question to ask a bunch of watch nerds what the "ultimate" GMT is lol I commend you for opening the can of worms!

Personally, I aspire to grab a GMT from either/both Rolex and Grand Seiko. My current GMT is the Oak and Oscar Humboldt GMT, but I'd love to get a "true" GMT on wrist here soon. Thinking it will be either from Grand Seiko or Tudor most likely.

I don't have a GMT currently; I am a neophyte when it comes to watch collecting. I only have 6 watches, currently. But I looked at this thread to see what was available.

But I also thought about something; my in-laws live in Poland, which is +7 hours from my time (I am on Central Standard Time, being a resident of Texas.) Whenever I think about Face-timing them, I always do the mental math, to make sure that I don't call them at an odd hour. (Basically, I never call them past like 4 pm, which is 11 pm their time.)

But the question I have is: is the GMT function really necessary? Aside from the convenience factor? I never pause more than like half a second to do the mental math. It doesn't slow me down at all. In fact, checking the time difference on my iPhone, which many cite as their "go to" method, is inconvenient for me, because it takes probably 10x as long to pick up the phone, click the icon, and switch to the World Clock tab, than it does to simply apply the "My Time + 7" formula. (For GMT, it would be "My Time +5.")

Ok, my random ramble is over, lol. 🤣

·

I voted for the G Shock, but my actual go to favorite GMT is my citizen Nighthawk, my "Nighty" 😂

Image
·

well, I'd go with something from a micro brand with a Seiko movement.

Image

But maybe I'd go bare and then go to the shop and get myself a Casio. Just as a reminder of a place I've been to. You talking about places that are not safe to wear an expensive watch, so I guess it's a pretty vibrant places with an interesting culture.

·

I have a few, but this is the one I use the most. Especially in the water. Phoibos Eagle Ray 300m dual time GMT. It has a double domed sapphire crystal and lume that glows like a headlamp. 200.00

Glycine Airman is one of the originators of the GMT

I also love my Citizen ProMaster Diver GMT titanium.

Of my current collection I'd take this - JLC is always the right choice.

If I was able to buy something new today for the trip?

Breitling Aerospace Evo.

Rolex Explorer II Polar (and a G Shock for if it gets really rough!)
