Has Omega become a brand full of waitlists?

2023, and I’m shocked to say that I’ve been waitlisted for the green sea master for over a year now. What’s even crazier is, I’ve got my hands on the Rolex Submariner (black) and the Starbucks from the same AD. These words are shocking at the moment. I truly hope, Omega and some of the household brands like IWC and others stop jumping on the supply/Demand bandwagon and just do what you are good at. So have omega gone astray? What if it happens to Grand Seiko and other go to brands: IWC, Tag or many others. I think we simply wouldn’t have it and walk out.

Exquisite Timepieces has one with the green strap available right now.

I've gotten four Rolex in the time I've been waiting for a Snoopy...two of them GMT IIs.

Omega has a few select pieces that are hard to get, but nothing like Rolex.

·

I have certainly seen this with Omega on some special / limited production watches, not IWC though unless it's something very limited (like the Laureus models). Transparency on waitlists / positions would be helpful across the board.

Come to Dubai, you can pick up a green Seamaster the same day in some boutiques or get the watch in two weeks max after booking. You can also get a 10% discount on the rest of the Seamaster colours but for the green Seamaster they throw in a free gree rubber strap if you buy the watch on the bracelet since they can't give you a discount on the model.

I guess in certain countries, the demand for green Seamaster is quite high.

I put down a deposit for a Snoopy when they were announced, and my AD has no idea when I may actually be getting one, telling me that they have not yet received any from Omega at all. Although Omega makes some of my favorite watches, I have no plans for adding anything more from Omega to my collection until I finally receive the Snoopy. I appreciate limited availability, but waiting 2+ years with no hope in sight is ridiculous.

Ironically, I've seen a green dial on Walmart.com. Obviously a listing from a 3rd party. So if Omega is doing the whole waitlist thing, like a fake night club line, they need more lessons from Rolex haha!

I can only assume you wanted the Rolex watches and didn't purchase them in the hope of speeding up (weak pun) the Snoopy process (which would kinda be the ultimate, yet costly, irony)?

Cause it probably goes for less than that on the grey market. Or so I hope.

Wait, so your AD's been cashing in increasing interests rates all this time, or did it benefit Omega directly?

You assume correctly. Three of them were from a sales associate that only sells Rolex. The other one was from a jeweler place that goes from Rolex directly down to Tissot.

I would never buy anything to curry favor.

·

Omega wishes that it had Rolex’ problem so bad that they are inventing artificial scarcity on some models to pretend.

Omega is literally LARPing Rolex.

I had put down a $2K CDN deposit with my AD back in October 2020 when the Snoopy was released, and was told that they were expecting to be allocated 10 watches. Initially, delivery was anticipated in 1H of 2021, but that kept getting pushed back. While the AD appears to be the one benefitting from any interest accumulating on deposits, they do genuinely appear to be extremely frustrated with the delay in obtaining the watches, and have informed me that they haven't yet received any of them from Omega. I've been tempted to ask for my deposit back, but I'd rather have the watch. The most frustrating part of the wait is seeing them available on the secondary market for 2x MSRP, indicating that at least some of the people who have been receiving them aren't interested in the watch itself, but rather the potential profit from flipping them.

Yep, join the club of watch enthusiasts that get screwed by market forces. As long as you'd rather have the watch than listening to white noise it's all good. I hope you get it soon!

I give you a lot of credit for waiting. I wanted a Tudor Ranger. I reached out to a few local AD’s and they all said about a 6 month wait. I just bought a used one. I am going to scratch it anyways. This was was already broke in for me.

·

Do you think this is an actual shortage or a watch company playing games. To drive up their watches.

·

everytime i went into omega boutique (airport or in the city) I always saw one available. Maybe Switzerland is just different 😎

·

Agree, it is frustrating to see them flipped. So much for ADs filtering them to only ‘good’ customers.

A lot of people use Omega's to flip cos flipping them won't impact your future purchases if you filp a Tudor or other inhouse brand.

Maybe I should!!! I can't even try one on at the AD here.

This is starting to happen, I just hope they understand that customers want to be treated well...with respect.

I absolutely think they are purposely causing the shortage and we begin to think...is it worth the wait?

·

Completely agree. The socking thing, I can get it for close to $1500 off at my grey dealer with 2 years inhouse warranty + the 5 years from Omega

Fair enough, but you were talking about how it's unavailable and all I was doing was pointing you in a direction where you can buy it new right now if you wanted.

But, I feel...I want to work with my AD and not ditch him for the grey.

·

Not interested in Omega but it's happened to me with other brands.

There is definitely a waitlist for Seaweed Omega Seamaster. However, unlike Rolex, you can put some down payment and the AD should get you it for you sooner. Also depends on the relationship you have with your AD. I did it today and hopefully should have one soon..

Unfortunately, can't do that for Snoopy..

·

brand owned boutiques keep tabs on your spend. Once you attain the minimum, they offer specialties, like a snoopy or an ed white, to those customers. That’s the real waitlist guys, sucks but that’s the way it is.

·
angleechew

The watch wasn't readily available here also until November albeit being announced early in 2022.

I think Omega just had production problem and they took time to catch up, same for the new 38mm Aquaterra which are only starting to be available recently.

There are also many reddit posts, people have had no issue finding the green Seamaster in rest of the Europe but apparently still not easily available in UK yet so I guess your region has quite a demand too.

It is fair there is a waiting period of the Snoopy and other models like the ones in precious metals which have limited production per year. Also the watch market lately have been having more exposure than before with people going for exclusive models compared to how easier it was to get most special models before 2019.

·

There are so many Omega SKUs that I feel like it's hard to tell. Out of thousands of models, if everyone wants a green Seamaster, then yes it will be a wait if everyone walks into boutique A to get one over the course of a week. I don't think they are a brand of waitlists, but they are a brand with a ton of SKUs and many people want three specific models. On the other hand, I wouldn't put it past them to try to build a sense of exclusivity with popular models (but I don't think that is what is happening). I also think it's worth considering Omega's plans vs. the tactics of AD's that are trying to secure and hold customers.

·

In the UK you can purchase the green seamaster directly off omegas website but over a years wait suggested by local AD. Something odd is happening with the AD's

Yeah, same thing is happening here.

It's called ADs often give discounts, whereas you pay full freight buying direct.
