Casioak Faceoff: metal Vs rubber : tech vs classic?
In the line of the CasiOak we are now spoilt for choice. They come with the classic Rubber with or without the Bluetooth+Solar power. This tech is so good, some solar watches really need to learn from Casio. Tank you Cartier :)
They have also launched the metal line with and without the Bluetooth+Solar power. I’m also impressed that the non-Bluetooth+Solar line comes with a DayDate function. Super cool.
Indeed, it’s nice to have options. But what if you have to decide on one as the go to? I somehow have fears that:
- the metal spring bar straps won’t last in the field
- the solar power dies (like other brands)
- the all rubber will eventually give way also
So maybe? The half metal and have rubber option is the way to go. What would you choose?

I went with the GA-B2100, it had the right combination of tech and price.
Bonus points for using "spoilt", it's a great word that rarely gets used in North American English.

Completely agree. With all three options in my collection...I am utterly spoilt. Somehow, CasiOak's are so cool. And yes, I am feeling "spoilt".

I'm not a huge fan of mine, I wish it was about 5mm smaller in diameter. It's my first, and only G-Shock, as I'm not a fan of the massive designs they tend use.
It is objectively a great watch though, and I'll be keeping mine around as a summer fun watch.
G-shocks being made with plastic were never meant to last very long. If it does it will be an anomaly. Casio straps always rot off in a few years and capacitors are the second things to die. Capacitor deaths in the power supply are the leading reason big screen TV's get trashed.
I have 12 G-Shocks, 8 are CasiOaks. Rubber, Steel, NATO, Solar, plain and colorful all are welcome.

Solar resin is the way to go if you're looking to have a great G-Shock in your collection.
