Why do people dislike Baby G?

I've been meaning to buy a G-Shock because I realized that I need a tough beater watch. I tried the Casioak at store and it was too big on my wrist. The AD offered the pink Casioak GMA-S2100-4A2DR and while it's smaller, it's still quite big.

Of all the G-shock shape, I like the square best. I told the AD that I like the DW-5600 and he then showed me their Baby-G square watches and the one in black pictured here stands out.

It has all the function I need from DW-5600, same square shape, only a bit smaller. It sits WAY nicer on my wrist than DW-5600. It seemed like the best choice until my friend stopped me saying "There's Baby G on the watch".

I've heard this a million times! I even remember when the GMA-S2100 Casioak line was released a lot of people commented that they're glad to have smaller options for Casioak "without Baby-G branding on the watch". I've seen people in the hobby erasing the Baby-G branding on their watches before wearing, there are tutorials on the net on how to do it.

Why are we so averse to the Baby-G branding? I don't get it. I thought it was because they're of lower quality than G-Shock but my reading so far shows that Casio use the same standard between G-Shock and Baby-G. Baby-G watches have the same 20 bar WR, same shock proof design, sometimes even same modules.

Genuinely curious, anyone can share any info on why people dislike Baby-G? I'm new to the hobby so maybe there's some insider knowledge or insights that I'm not aware of.

I’d wear that square Baby-G. 😊👌

Tough and Baby are kind of opposites in the minds of many.

If they had said 'Mini-G' instead...

Baby can have a negative connotation, so I'm guessing the problem people have with the Baby-G is based on that.

If Casio rebranded the watches and dropped the "baby" in the name I bet people would have no issues with the watch itself.

Because we're big tough men and seeing the word baby on a big strong man's watch makes me feel I'm wearing a little girls watch GOD IM SO MANLY

hehe its funny cos its half true

Casio have non g-shock offerings that are almost as tough but smaller and 100m water resistance for around 25 bucks. What your getting with the G-shock is just a whole lot of plastic around the electronic module.

I did look around for Casio watches but at that moment I couldn't find one with 100m WR but small like a Baby-G. Tried AE-1200 and A-1100 but those are still very big on me.

Which sucks because I was this 🤏 close to buying Casio Royale

Right, so basically people just don't like the word BABY?

There's no other reason, Baby-G watches don't have defect or faulty?

Thanks guys! Nothing's stopping me from getting that watch now 😁

I would absolutely own and wear a Baby G. I think the branding on the watch scares many off, but it’s almost everything the 5600 is.

Many people always came to think that Baby G wasn't  enough. Most of everyone was so caught up on the regular size or bigger. If they would of had enough celebrities  wearing them and advise them out there maybe that could have up there.

Perhaps because of the Baby-G name, we are manly so baby means is inferior and I'm not a baby when they are really intended for small wristed people. Maybe Mini-G would have been a better name.
