Brands with bracelets for big hand + normal wrist

My father has really big hands, but a rather regular wrist size. He is not a big watch aficionado, but we started talking about the one I was wearing and then he pulled out one he had been gifted but which he could hardly get over his hands. My hand anatomy is quite different, so I could not give him a good advice at the time. Of course a strap would solve the problem, but he likes (metal) bracelets more.

Does a brand come to your mind whose bracelets can be opened quite wide so the big hand / regular wrist combination would have no problem with them? Quartz models in the sub 500€ range with good build quality and quite big case diameters (>= 45mm) would be interesting.

I do not have that combo, but what about a butterfly deployant clasp used on the normal bracelet?

Thanks for the tip, but can the clasp of a bracelet be exchanged in general, I thought this would depend a lot on which end links there are and would not be possible in general. I should have taken a picture of my father's bracelet...

But of course I could just look for models that have a butterfly style bracelet. I don't own any such bracelet that opens wide, so I did not think about this variant.

How about those expansion bracelets!

Yeah, your dad's situation is sort of unique so it's gonna be harder to find what you need, if it even exists at all.

Crafting one might be your best option.

OR! just thought of this! How does he feel about Milanese bands?

I am not a fan of Milanese bands, but maybe he likes them, I will ask him. Next time I visit I will take a close look at his bracelet and maybe it's not hard to add a butterfly clasp after all.

Thanks guys, you have given me three options, I think I can come up with something good now! For me, it was mostly about the watches up to now, when I had sized a bracelet, that was it, so I was not thinking very much about that topic at all.

Get a clasp with a dive extension? They open really wide.

Here it's closed:

Then you can open it normally:

And if that is not enough, open the dive extension:

This Sinn bracelet that i have as an example opens up 6cm normally and around 3.5cm addition with the dive extension.

So for the price you're thinking i'd check for dive type watches on a bracelet that have a dive extension.

A lot of the Seiko dive watches have divers extensions built into their bracelets, but then again so do many micro brands and some main stream like Seiko. I'd just make sure that's a feature of the over all watch before buying.

You can also retro fit another clasp to most bracelets, just make sure you measure the joint at which the bracelet meets the clasp and the look at somewhere like Ali Express, there's literally hundreds of sellers on there, maybe retro fit a butterfly clasp which opens considerably more than a standard clasp.

Best of luck in your search 👍

NP. The new Seiko Solar diver should fit your requirements and it has a dive extension. 38.5mm case so it can be a tad small for big wrists.
