Accurist Retro Racer 7367 Chronograph Review

I first saw this watch by chance on a YT video, something about 5 best chronograph's for around $100, and was instantly intrigued. However, sadly, it's not for me..

Being a fan of vintage watches (I own at least 3 pre-1980 Seikos), and motorsport, the 1960's square, Tag Heuer-esque auto racing vibe of the Accurist Retro Racer was appealing, and it is clearly done very well.

Also, Accurist are a well-known UK brand with 70+ years of heritage, being best known for John Cleese doing whimsical TV ads in the 1970's, and the speaking clock service "sponsored by Accurist".

The watches are of course, made in the far-east, but there's an elevated sense of trust that the watch will be above par when the company behind it has heritage.

Normally I'd never buy a watch sight-unseen, however at 70 pound, or about $100, on Amazon, I decided to take a gamble.

A week later the watch arrived and didn't disappoint. The box is small, in a matte-shine dark purple, with flip-top and viewing window, and presents very well. Worth keeping.

On first impressions the Retro Racer 7367 is both handsome and elegant, as well as eye-catching in it's retro departure from conventional round watch cases.

The black sunburst dial has a 24-hour sub-dial, as well as a minute sub-dial, and the second hand moves at one second per 'tick'. In the reviews I saw the reviewer had remarked that the second hand lines up perfectly with the second markers, however on my example it seems to only line up for the second half of a minute. Odd.

The movement is a Japanese Miyota quartz (CAL.OS21).

The date is at 6 o'clock, which I like, and there is a contrasting white tachymeter chapter ring framing the dial.

The strap is a dark brown w/ white stitching 'Monza' style strap, supple leather, signed, and is very good quality. The buckle is also signed with the Accurist logo. There are two other models that both come with steel 'Milanese' style mesh bracelets - a silver dial w/ black sub-dials and orange hands, and a blue dial with silver sub-dials. All three are striking in their own way.

The brushing on the case is good, with a polished beveled edge between side and top, as is the bezel. The crown is polished and signed, and the case back is also well finished, with a mix of etched and polished, with cal. specs, and so on. Water resistance is 50 meters.

At a moderate 40mm I feel it wears large on my 7" inch (approx. 18cm) wrist, but I have a phobia of large watches, so I'm quite unforgiving of watches that wear bigger than perhaps they should.

Overall I would say the Accurist Retro Racer 7367 is excellent for the money, and if you want a bit of retro flair that wont break the bank, or be a delicate vintage museum piece, then go ahead and pull the trigger.

However, for me, well I don't know whether it's my prejudice against faux-retro, or that I find the watch slightly too 'blingy' for my stealth tastes, or the fact that it's a quartz, and I love all things mechanical, well the watch will be gifted to my 15-year old nephew.

Good review thank you! I'm looking at accurist now. Lots of memories from my childhood!

Thanks for the review,  you don't mention the movement, is it a Mecaquartz,  I'm guessing not at this price point?

Amended - The movement is a Japanese quartz (CAL.OS21).
