What would you pick and why? Glycine VAER Boldr

So many great inexpensive field style watches. Curious what you guys/gals would pick and why. I already have a Swiss Watch Co. Bunker and Momentum Atlas Smokejumper, just looking at a few other attractive pieces. You can comment any others in this same price range. VAER C5 Tactical Field - $299 - 40mm, 316L stainless steel, sapphire, screw down crown, 25 layers C3 Super-LumiNova, Ronda 715 (quartz) movement, 100m water resistance. Glycine Combat Vintage GL0457 - $268 - 43mm, stainless steel, sapphire, push-pull crown, Superluminova (unknown amount or type), GL224 (SW200-1 based) movement, 50m water resistance. BOLDR Venture - $299 - 38mm, titanium, sapphire (w/ AR), screw down crown, Superlume, SII NH35A movement, 200m water resistance. All very nice looking with great specs. Of course Hamilton (or my SWC Bunker) beat them, but still desire them too haha.

If I had to pick one I think I’d go Boldr. Specs are great and they have so many different color options.

·

Boldr or Vaer for me. Glycine has some good specs and decent designs but when I was first introduced to the brand I heard story after story about crowns falling out/off of their Combat subs line. From that time I never really looked back to them. Everyone’s experience is totally different though. Could just be me.

·

i would go for glycine mostly because of the swiss mechanical movement

·

I'm a Glycine fan, but field watches with 50m water resistance are a no-no for me. I really like the look of the Boldr.

·

The Boldr Medic Il has a pulsations feature. A nice nod to first responders and fitness geeks.

·

All things equal I'd have to admit that I'm not indifferent to Swiss snobbery so I'd pick the Glycine. However, I'm slightly confused as I see that Glycine priced at € 495 ($450).

Price and a few other technicalities make me heavily tend towards the Boldr Venture which also has a very much more interesting case design.

Ashford has it on sale right now which made me consider it.

Ah, gotcha. I don't know I've always admired Boldr cases and design in general, I'd grab one right now if I didn't have other priorities and two pledged Kickstarter watches :)

·

Hamilton Khaki Field all day long. There are so many choices in the Khaki line, I just can't decide which one I want

·

I'd pick the Vaer, for a watch like that quartz is hard to be for practicality.

·

I would look at Hamilton or some other Swatch Group brand.

·

The movement is the decider for me from specs alone.

·

I would take a look at Orient Star RE-AU0203B00B.

·

Vaer for me. Primarily due to size. I would look at Hamilton and victorinox as well.

·

Boldr, because i am a cheap ass

·

The Lorus field watch, either the titanium or the lumibrite (or the Alba titanium lumibrite if you can find one). Yes, they are quartz, but this is really what a field watch ought to be.

If you really require a mechanical watch, perhaps a traditional (automatic) from Baltany...

or perhaps a hand-winder from Merkur

Boldr makes a high-quality, purpose-built tool watch for a great price. Even their packaging is awesome (most of their watches come in a small flip-lock hard plastic container).

·

I voted Glycine, but I would actually prefer Hamilton Khaki over them all. I think if you had put the Hamilton Khaki in the poll, you would have found that it topped them all. Especially when you can usually find them brand new on the grey market for about $300.

·

I'd go with the Glycine. Then again, I'm something of a Glycine fan, owning a Combat Sub 39 and an Airman No.1

I agree and I do have a few Hamiltons in my shopping cart on various sites. Just not ready to "pull the trigger" on those. Best price I found was $384 but other than sapphire and brand recognition it doesn't have as much as all these microbrands (BOLDR, Vaer, SWC, Momentum). Lume and AR aren't necessary but how big Hamilton (and the parent) are they could definitely do something for inexpensive. I wake up a lot during the night (10-15 times) and always glance at the time. A bit of lume wouldn't be rejected ;)

And not picky if it is quartz, hand or automatic.

If you are looking for great specs at a great price, then you might want to consider the field watch/fliegers from Escapement Time on Aliexpress.

I have this one for which I paid $98 and it is a really great watch (some of my watch crew have also added this one to their collection)...

42mm x 12mm - Seiko NH35 - sapphire - 300M WR - screw down crown - good lume

They also have one with a fully lumed dial...

I voted Glycine as I have a Combat Sub and an Airman and both a great and were great value from Ashford. But if the Hamilton field watch is available at around that price level, that would be my preference to the Glycine for its higher water resistance and as I could get the smaller size. The Hamilton is one of my favourite watches - a great all rounder.

Interesting watch

It's being built at the moment and should be shipped in May. It's my birthday present to myself 😆 Pics to follow. I went for the Redbar limited edition.

·

Hamilton would be my other vote. Great long term backing for parts and service with swatch group behind them plus a lot of heritage.

·

CWC GS Sapphire

·

The Vaer is beautiful, but personally if we're going microbrand I'd go for the Lorier Falcon

·

The Seiko 5 SRPG line are really solid for the price. I swapped an AR double domed sapphire crystal on mine and it really makes the dial pop.

·

i would go for a Glycine as my Combat Sub 39 havent let me down even once. And spec'ed with sapphire crystal 300m water resistance and a SW200 movement you cant go wrong. And then it looks fantastic 😍😁

Just checked it out and very nice watch. But at 36mm that is a bit harder to wear (for me). My 38mm are already too small (old man eyes) :)
