Have you ever had a Holy $#!¥ moment with your watch?

Have you crunchers ever had a Holy $#!¥ moment with your watch?

This would be heart piercing moments of accidentally scratching or breaking or simply dropping it. Or worse, someone else’s watch.

This is my story…

So I was trying on my son's new Straton which he so proudly saved up for - As I was pushing the strap thru the buckle, it just decided to slip off my wrist diving straight to the marble floor. As it was falling (in slow mo) my Bruce Lee reflexes kicked in and I half caught it….not. I caught air. It slipped past my fingers and continued with the journey down. As it reached near my knees (still in slow mo) my Ronaldo skills kicked in this time. I kind of scooped it up with my leg and redirected its journey side ways. Amazingly, my son donning his (inherited) Bruce Lee reflexes caught it in mid flight. Both my son and I shouted Holeee $#!¥ in unison. Twice we shouted, At the start and at the end of the Straton’s 2 second flight.

We survived that heart attack moment and lived happily ever after but I swore to never ever strap on a watch (especially my son’s) without some kind of soft landing below anytime. (Hope) My son still loves me.

That’s my happy ending(?) story.

My wish for you is not to ever have that moment but if you have had already, do tell us. Have you ever had a Holy $#!¥ moment with your watch?

Glad it worked out!

When I first got one of my grail watches, the Omega Planet Ocean 39.5, I was letting my dog out in the back yard, and a huge gust of wind came out of nowhere and blew the screen door right into my watch! I was pretty sure it had hit directly on the crystal, so I wasn't too concerned about serious damage. But looking closer I saw what appeared to be a hairline crack in the ceramic bezel insert! There was of course a $@#! moment! But after close inspection, it turned out to be a stray hair that had gotten stuck between the bezel and crystal, and I was able to remove it and all was well. Pretty scary for a minute though.

Dropped my B&M Capeland from about 6' onto a linoleum tile floor. Nothing happened for over a month but then it stopped. Was it because of the fall, a delayed reaction? Fortunately, Authentic Watches repaired it under warranty, which makes me think it wasn't the fall, but I'll never know for sure.

Ohh man!! I would Have died!! Lol but I did banged up my Oris NY harbor Thursday at work I thought I damaged the crystal 😖 luckily not even a scratch 😮💨

·

Totally get what you are saying.

I've had more than my share of dropping stuff and it's usually expensive. Other than dropping and damaging a watch, the next worse thing is to look down and see moisture in the case.

I had a watch with 150m water resistance that I took to the beach. Apparently, I forgot to screw down the crown after winding it in the morning, so water got into the watch after a little swimming. The watch was ruined. I just gave it to the watch maker. Didn’t even want it fixed or sold. Once in a while, I’ll remember that day and get angry internally.

I can imagine the stress before discovering the hair. 😜

Did Authentic Watches say what was the cause?

Sorry to hear. I would have kept it just to remind myself.

Last year at WindUp watch fair in San Francisco I pulled the whole crown and stem out from a display watch while on camera. To make matters worse when I set the crown and stem down to hand the watch back someone bumped it right off of the table and into the midst of all the people crowded around to see and no one could spot it. The vendor initially looked at me with naked contempt as if I'd done it on purpose but I knew I hadn't exerted any abnormal force and said so on camera. I bought beers for all involved after the video was deleted but will not soon forget how awful and awkward that all was. I'm purposely not mentioning the vendor as he claimed the watch was a prototype (?) so I don't want to slag the brand.

Crab trap bit my Seiko Alpinist! Nice deep scratch on the bezel and bracelet.

I had a ceramic / Titanium Tuna which my dad purchased for me when I joined the Military in 1984.. Fast forward to 1990 Iraq, returned from a patrol, it had gone… holy shit! Followed by anger. Still distressed about it now, mainly because it came from my dad.

I feel for you. Sorry to have reminded you of that not so nice incident.

Did Authentic Watches say what was the cause?

No, but I don't think they knew. They sent it to a watch repair shop who fixed it and returned it. Since they fixed it under warranty, I doubt they knew it had been dropped.

Left my watch in the car for a day at the beach. When we returned, it had gotten so hot in the car the acrylic crystal had warped! Argh 🤯

Well for a living I have to visit construction sites, in early fazes and during construction. One time I had to go to the roof, but the scaffolding wasn't up to par. So we decided to go to the other building and leap over the balustrade, so we got access to the roof in construction. I had at the moment put on a watch, not too fancy, not too expensive but it was new. Did not want to scratch it, so for safe keeping, I put the watch in my back pocket.

We got to the balustrade, me at that point being the youngest of the three persons there I took the lead in jumping the balustrade first. Although invisible at first their was a patch of ice on the other side... I came down on my feet, my feet decided that they prefer to be in the air, so I fell on my bottom. Right on my watch... I heard cracking noises (might have been my bum) but needles to say, the bracelet was ruined and the case was all scratched up.

Now I take of my watch before entering a construction site, because after another scaffolding incident where I pointed at something and hit my watch right on the glass, I changed my ways. 😄

Maybe it's still better on the wrist and not in pockets. If you have to take it off maybe put it in your front pocket. I don't know, I'm just talking like I know. Don't listen to me... Wish you the best

One time I was putting on my Casio MTPS120L, and it fell from my wrist and landed flat on the crystal on my hardwood floor with a loud bang. It didn’t pounce or slide, just flat on the crystal and didn’t move. It took me a second to work up the courage to pick it up, but eventually I did. Luckily it was okay, but gave me a heart attack haha.

You are so lucky but then again, it’s a Casio. Glad for you.

Last summer, I finally had to change the battery in my G-Shock square after 11 years of operation on the factory battery. One day recently, I decided to wear while showering and it was working when I got in. When I was done and dried off, I noticed the LCD had stopped working and there was fogging on the inside of the crystal. I was so pissed at myself for not installing the gasket and case back correctly. I went outside and launched it into the back yard. That was the first watch I received that started my obsession with watches.
