Bulova Accutron 214

First post! Here’s my #wotd, a tuning fork beauty from the ‘60s. My friend said I should get it skeletonized, but I like it as-is from the factory. Honestly, I think the tuning fork movement is incredible but not that attractive. What do you think?

#wotd #vintage #bulova #accutron No definitely not skeletonized. It's lovely the way it is! Really nice. Great offset case too. I love that machine turning round the bezel.

This is a fantastic piece.

Great watch. I agree with you that it is best left original. There are plenty of project watches waiting out there for you to mod if you so desired.

·

Beautiful watch in its original form. I love the dial. If you want a skeletonized watch, get a separate skeletonized watch and join the club (if you aren't already a collector).

Thanks!

I limit myself to one watch box, and consequently, I only have room for one Accutron in my collection. It really makes you think about your purchases carefully when you must also sell a watch!

That watch reminds me of an older Omega Constellation. Very good looking watch. I really like it. Leave it as is.

Don't listen to your friend.

Beautiful watch, Let it be!

A great looking vintage watch.

I didn’t even know that you can “skeletonize” a watch. It genuinely seems like a terrible idea for a watch.

When they started selling Accutrons, they made a skeleton version for the distributors to show off the technology. It did not occur to them that the distributors would keep selling these models. Bulova themselves released a kit to convert watches to into the “Spaceview” version. It’s my understanding that many of the original kits are still available.

Ah... Thanks for the knowledge. In my ape brain, I was imagining the dial being cut up to show the innards of the watch, and the horror of that thought put a fear in my heart.

Keep it real! I have two: my dad’s from 1970, and a railroad from 1972 which was my high school graduation gift. They both work perfectly and are in fine shape. A stunning bit of technology at the time and priceless to me.

It was a tough decision between this one and one of the “railroad approved” models. They are iconic in my eyes.
