Seiko, Seiko Luxe, King Seiko, Grand Seiko

We all love Seiko but with their various models and price points and brands, here's the question Would you pay 5k for a Seiko without it being " Grand Seiko"??? Would you pay north of 5k for "King, luxe etc.

A few are definitely worth that kind of money like my SNR045.

If the quality is there, then I'm willing to pay for it. Some Seikos like the watches in the Prospex LX collection and certain high end limited editions are easily on the same tier as Grand Seiko in terms of fit and finish. These particular watches are kind of their own special category targeted at the avid collectors and don't really represent the more entry level and middle tier range that most people imagine when they think of Seiko.

Personally, I kind of like the under the radar vibe that gives them.

Your premise is false, I don't love Seiko... I like maybe 4 or 5 models.

More to the point, the name matters less to me than the watch itself. I'd gladly we a Citizen NC0200-90E over a Rolex, GS, or Omega.

Definately! I love my King Seiko Samurai and Sumo and the Limited editions as well - but I would pay more to get 'true' kings - move the King range into the King Seiko line and upgrade them to higher spec movements etc.

Yes… I’m waiting for mine to arrive…

I guess I question the point of so many brands if you’re going to overlap what they do. Seiko justifies selling watches for thousands of dollars by trumpeting great finishing and movements. So what am I getting from GS then? Part of the reason GS interests me is the amazing finishing I thought you couldn’t get from other brands. So if I can get a Seiko branded watch with a spring drive movement, what’s so special about GS?

To me they’re just making their higher end watches feel less special. Or else they’re way overcharging for their mid level watches. Either way, Seiko seems confused as to what it is they do right now.
