In Honor of Our 124th Independence Day

Independence. Not just a big word, concept, or idea. It is a reality and truth anchored on our inherent nature, and inalienable right, to be free.

On this our national holiday, we pledge to continue to fight for our freedoms so easily trampled, or so easily given up.

Interesting that you consider it the 124th Independence Day for the Phillippines (going back to the Spanish-American War of 1898 - Battle of Manila Bay - “You may fire when you are ready, Gridley.” - George Dewey) given that the U.S. retained it as a colony and territory until 1946.  Philippines 50 centavos piece minted in San Francisco in 1945:

Yes, we consider our Declaration of Independence on June 12th, 1898, as we did so against the Spanish, and not against the Americans. The Americans didn't arrive yet when that declaration was made. And because the US refused to recognize our official declaration, and due right to self-rule and self-determination, we went to war against the American imperial colonizers for close to 2 years. Ironically, this is so similar to how the British didn't recognize the declaration of independence by the American patriots, and it took a number of years before they finally did.

Here are a couple of articles that may shed more light:

Hi kapatid! Love the Nato strap you have on it. Have you considered owning pieces from either De Guzman & Co or Ibarra Watches? I have one from DG&C and I love it (the DG008 I believe, with the baybayin indices - will be posting a review + photos of it when I have the time).

Hi kapatid! Thanks for the compli. I've seen Ibarra pieces already, but I'm not so much into the dressy pieces. And, I'm not so keen on their only field watch design in gray or black. Will check out DG&C. Cool that they incorporated Baybayin indices, akin to Seiko using Hebrew indices in one of their pieces. Looking forward to your review and photos. 👍 Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! 💪🍻

I would have thought that July 4th (1946) would have been y’all’e Independence day. But I get the symbolism. TIL to that your from the Philippines.

·

Yep, many make the mistake of thinking twas the US who "gave" us our independence. I trust you read the comment I made above in answer to another Cruncher. So, it's not symbolism, it's historical facts. 😉

What's TIL? Until..? Till...? 'Til..? Or, is it yet another of those newly invented abbreviations / acrostics? 😛 hehe...
