Could the Grand Seiko SBGW manual wind be a daily wear / GADA watch?

Hello Watchcrunch! I have been slowly working through watches, trying on many different brands and models. My focus has been on getting a daily wearer. I have an upcoming opportunity to try one on. I’m active(ish), ride my bike to work in Calgary everyday, all year long. My work is mostly deskbound. Would a Grand Seiko SBGW survive a week with me? I don’t have a sense of it’s toughness. Thank you!

30M water resistance? That is not a GADA watch.

Good point: the movement isn’t going to enjoy getting wet. Does 30m mean rain is a problem? Is water resistance an indicator of toughness?

Rain isn't a problem, but in my mind a GADA watch is one you can jump into a pool with.

I think it’s a reasonable choice for someone with a desk job. If you were a fisherman or professional diver, the answer would probably be different. I would be a little afraid of wiping out on the bike and putting some serious scratches on the watch, but you are probably a better cyclist than I am.

Riding your bike to work all year, the sweat and rain will kill the leather strap. And the low water resistance makes it less suitable as an all-year, daily wear watch. You're going to submerge your wrist at some point throughout a year. Probably twice.

Not a GADA in my opinion. But it is a killer dress watch. I like it.

Daily wear, yes if you have a desk job only.

GADA, nope.

Depends on lifestyle though? If you never swim then 50atm is more than enough.

Depend life style I guess. I usually spend most of of time in thr office or walk/hike. And I do not wear my watch to swim. So. 30m is good enough and I do wear my 30m watch for most activities

That you have doubts about a manual watch on a crocodile strap with an RRP of c.C$6.5k from the “Elegance” GS collection hopefully answers your own question?

It’s a v lovely watch but not an ideal GADA.

I’ve got a Seiko Dolce with a 8J quartz movement that was once used by Grand Seiko. Most importantly, that watch has 30m of water resistance. I have used the in many scenarios that you describe and it has never bothered me. 30m has been more than enough for me personally. So, I believe it would be a good daily driver for you.
