A special moment with my father

I’ve been seeing tribute posts about fathers lately and that always gets me choked up as I am also close to my Dad. To give you a little background, I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to California to get my college degree a couple of decades ago. I’ve lived in Orange County since and have been visiting my home country every few years or so.

I took after my father for his love of watches. In fact, a few posts back I showed an Omega Flightmaster that he owned since the early 70s that he gave to me many years ago. Since Covid has put a damper on my regular visits, I have not seen my father in 6 years albeit we’ve always communicated through FaceTime and texting.

Alas, I arrived yesterday after a 15-hour flight and went straight to his house. The very first thing he did is to hand me a box. Lo and behold, it’s a Rado watch box and in it is this beautiful Rado Ceramica. He said that he bought it while he was on a cruise in 2018. He had numerous opportunities to send it to me; however, he said that he always planned to give it to me in person.

I was truly astounded and pleasantly surprised it was the last thing I thought he would do at that moment. As a watch geek, I thought I’d share this story with my fellow enthusiasts.

Cheers!

That‘s a great story even without the watch bit. Glad you have been reunited. Enjoy every precious minute.

You’re right, Andrew. I would've been just as happy to see him without the watch. It just made the story just a tad bit special, and I’m sure it was the same for my Dad.

For sure. And a really cool watch in the story is all for the better. Rado should put you guys in a commercial!
