To Service or Not To Service?

I have a friend with a brand new VC Overseas that came with a free service (normally $1200) within the first two years. The watch is running perfectly right now—does it make any sense to send it in for a service anyway for a free service and possibly to extend the coverage for another two years? One downside is that sending it away for service will take time, so that’s two months without his watch. But are there any other downsides? Thanks for your opinions!

Absolutely take advantage.

While what the future holds for him & his watch is uncertain, based on the currently known calculus, getting the service near the end of the 2 years means 2 more years before he has to shell out for the next needed service.

This is sort of like the gag about Ferrari dealerships not offering loaner cars. It is expected that a Vacheron owner has another watch to tide him over during repairs.

If wearing the watch for a month or two right now is worth $1200 to him, then forfeit it. But extending a warranty and getting a free service would be worth it to most.

I don't service my watches unless there is a malfunction, period.  Servicing is invasive, think about it tearing down the entire movement?  Absolutely not.

Ahh, from experience theres not such thing as free. every time there was some thing free you gonna pay something on the tail end some how. Weather is money or time.
