Will The Gilt Dial Tudor BB58 Age Well?

The classic gilt dial Tudor BlackBay 58 has been THE hot enthusiast watch for the past few years. It's the flagbearer for the neo-vintage wave and the market is hot for fauxtina, vintage inspired designs and re-issues.

Is this a trend or is it here to stay? IMO it's most likely a trend and trends don't last forever. So how will the Tudor BB 58 gilt dial age?

Will it hold it's value in the future or will be seen like the iconic Frank Muller watches?

One last thing, is the BB 58 Blue the one that should have our attention as it ditches the neo-vintage aspects?

Personally, I'm a fan of the BB 58. Especially the BB 58 Blue but I'm saving up for a Seamaster! Curious about how the gilt dial BB 58 will age though.

I think the OG bb58 will always be a classic. As that alum bezel gets beat up, and the case isn't so shiney anymore, the exterior will begin to match the vintage gilt theme and the watch will come alive 😍

@doitforthedial I had the same feelings about the OG bb58 which is why I ended up selling mine. In 20 or 30 years it'll be a vintage vintage inspired watch? Don't know if that'll be cool, but what do I know?!

The OG BB58 and the BB58 blue have a very different feel, and although the blue does have a more modern vibe, I think it's all a matter of personal preference, and will remain so in 20 or 30 years.  If the blue had been available back in 2019 when I bought my OG, I may have had a tough time deciding, but I think I'd have still ended up with the one I have.

I've just got into vintage skin divers and I definitely agree that the OG bb58 will look stunning when vintage. Personally, I hope my future self goes for the blue variant.

Great minds think alike! Do you think you would have considered the blue variant a keeper?

Geniuses over here 😁

Maybe...I prefer the color of the OG, but at least the blue version doesn't give off so many vintage vibes. If they removed the faux rivets from the blue it'd be a more compelling purchase for me personally.

Between the fauxtina and the faux rivets, the standard BB 58 doesn’t do it for me. I do like the BB 58 Blue, however.

Asking these questions about just any watch I think is different than asking about the BB58 OG.  It's just different and the whole package is just so good, think it will stand the test of time.  I want one real bad.

I can't wait mine to age, it would look a w e s o m e.(Image failed to load!)

IMO, this era will likely be remembered for watch brands releasing reinterpretations of iconic vintage watches to reignite enthusiasm in the industry, and the Tudor bb (all variants) will inescapably be front and center. As a fellow Tudor bb owner, I worry that over time collectors may look at this era as the time watch brands took few risks and generally lacked much innovation- both in design and in function. History may very well appreciate the pelagos line over the black bay line for its attempt to push the brand forward (for example). That being said, as a collector your opinions are shaped by your experiences, and having many adventures with your black bay will ensure you don’t care about public perception one way or the other :)
