Homage watches vs Mirco Brands - Which Do You Prefer?

The sub 400 market is dominated by homage watches and microbrand watches.

Personally, I have no issue with wearing a homage and prefer them to microbrand watches because I place a lot of weight on design. Homage watches always look good and because they do not spend on design the materials, fit and finishing are usually better than microbrands.

Generally speaking, do you prefer a well made homage watch or an original microbrand watch at the same price point?

Why cant those two things be mutually the same... Helson for instance is a small batch Microbrand. They also do Homage models..very good ones at that too. I personally own a Helson Sharkmaster 300.. that is an homage to the Omega Seamaster 300 that was issued in the mid-60's to the British MOD for Divers. The thing is incredible! I've seen others give glowing reviews of Helson original designs as well..

No-brained for me. I’d choose the micro brand over the „hommage“ a.k.a. cheeky copy at any time.

If I want a Bentley, I save for a Bentley and buy a Bentley and don’t buy a Chysler 300c.

If I can’t or don’t want to spend that money, I choose another car (watch)

9/10 times I'd go with the more original microbrand on paper but the entire discussion on what constitutes an homage watch is so varied that I might pick the "homage" watch over an "original" because I think its unique enough to stand on its own legs. But that's just my subjective opinion.

The microbrand....unless I can get a high quality Speedmaster homage

There is another discussion going on about Islander watches. A lot are homage, and I would go with them vs. a micro brand that might not be around a year later (depending on how established they are)

Either , or

I'm more of a microbrand kinda guy. Although I do see the appeal of a straight homage, like the Invicta Pro Diver or Steeldives, I feel like I'd just get upset over the fact I don't have the real deal every time I look down upon my wrist

I love a good homage watch, I think Steinhart are superb!👍

Virtually all homages are by micro-brands.

When it all boils down to it ALL watches are Rolex Submariner, Breitling Navitimer, Bulova A-11 or Seiko 0634 homages.

Homage all the way. I rarely see microbrands that I like. I’d rather have exactly what I like as opposed to something that’s 3/4 the way there. That’s just me personally.

That's a bold, and somewhat head-scratching, claim.
