What's your favourite Rolex?

I am not a Rolex fanboy. Having said that, I do like some of their pieces, and this one(Rolex Explorer II 16570) is surely on my top 3. I do not own this piece but was happy to try it out at a store :)

16570 is one of my favorites as well. I'm a sucker for the 5 digit sport models with the same case, such as the 14060 and 16710.

The example you tried on looks to be in great condition! I'm looking for a black one myself to accompany my polar. But they are hard to find in the condition of the one in your picture.

I haven't tried the polar in person so perhaps I might change my mind ;) You can ping me privately and I can share the details of the store. Btw, I do not have any affiliation with the store or the person selling it. I just stumbled upon it during my stroll in geneva ;)

Probably the Explorer II Polar or Explorer I 36.

·

i like black submariner and reverse panda daytona. dont know about reference number though lol

·

Definitely has got to be the "John Mayer" Daytona 116508! This is definitely my grail Rolex at the moment, but having had a chance to check it out recently, I just love the combination of gold with green dial. Don't get me wrong any all gold watch is so over the top, and prices on this right now are bonkers! But I still think this a beautiful piece, and along with my green OP 41mm is one of my favorite Rolex out there!

Explorer 1016 but did settle with this:

I feel you! I was never a fan of Daytona until I tried it out in person and boy it did blow my mind. My favorite Daytona as of today is the Rosegold, Chocolate dial on an Oysterflex. Perhaps I might change my mind when I try the Daytona 116508 ;)

Well, the Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT in white and the Traska Summiteer V3 in Sage green. The first one because I love the Explorer II Polar, as you can imagine, and the Traska because the improvements made were also suggested by me in a video I posted in YouTube :)

The black Explorer II is nice, not as ubiquitous as the polar white. Suits you well. My favorite Rolex is my grail. The panda Daytona. However close behind is the white OP39.

Such a lovely set. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about that white dial OP. Any other Rolexes in your collection ?

That CW on that strap is just too perfect :). I have been wanting to get a GMT for a very long time now but I just can’t decide on which one. Do you have any suggestions ?

oh btw, I just checked your YT channel. Nice videos and keep them coming :) the Sage green dial with an orange hand is pretty sweet!

Yes…. I am real Rolex fanboy, my collection consists of half Rolex and half other brands. I own the big Rolex tripple, Hulk, Pepsi, Panda Daytona, plus the Air-King and the Op39. Since Friday last week I also own the Explorer Rolesor. Got the call and had to ride to my AD immediately…

Do you own other Rolex?

Thanks for the compliments! I'm still learning a lot building the channel. It's fun but a lot of work.

About GMTs, truth be told I've nearly checked everything out there. I have a 42mm Glycine Base 22 GMT and this one, the CW Sealander. My advice would be to go for the Sealander, but maybe in black or green depending. The while one is great but wish they had colored the hands in black, like the Explorer II. The Squale Vintage sub-39 GMT is also sweet if you don't mind the faux patina. I haven't had it in the hands but I almost got until but the CW was released soon afterwards. I think I could talk about GMT's for hours, but those would be my pics right now all things considered.

Also GMTs are like anything in life. Once you fall in the rabbit hole, it's like a whole new world. First you need to figure out if you need a travel or office GMT, the size, and the functionality. I wanted all hands to have lume and the GMT hand should never be totally obscured by the other hands. Fixed bezel might be a thing, but I wanted something rugged like the CW. And the 39 (40mm) SW hit basically all the marks :)

Thanks for the detailed insight. I am ready to dive into the rabbit hole of GMTs ;). I have narrowed it to the following (39-40 mm) is my ideal case size.

  • The CW Sealander - Hunter green (thanks for the suggestion)
  • Farer Lander Midnight

I believe these offer a great deal for the price point. Any take on Farer?

Pascal, that is one helluva collection! I am just flabbergasted. Kudos to you for building a collection like this :D I couldn't scroll beyond the GMT Master - II (Pepsi on that Jubilee). I was just replying to @marioap regarding the rabbit hole of GMTs and I see this :D I heard there were some insane waiting times to get these pieces?

Waiting list… yes that’s complicated. It’s not a list as you would imagine, like first comes first served. At my AD it‘a a mix of buying history, buying outlook and waiting time. I have a very good relationship with them. They know me well and that I only buy at them plus they know that I appreciate this watches, I wear them. No safe queens and no flipping. So my longest wait was for the Daytona, I waited 1 year and 3 month. The OP39 and Air-King were right out of the window. The others around 1 month waiting.

I only learnt about Farer recently and their designs really impressed me. I think they are very compact and awesome looking. Should I already not have bought the Sealander I might have been struggling on to which to choose. For me maybe the problem with the Farer is that is dressier, more elegant than what I wanted and the case is not screw in. Don't know about the crown, mainly because I try all my watches to have that feature as where I live is quite common that I go on a normal walk during the summer and end up bathing at the beach if feeling like it. Other than that, maybe the 24 hours are a bit smaller than I'd desire, but that also makes the watch so much more elegant. For traveling and using in any other situation is a winner. The colors are simple amazing judging from the photos and would love to have one in my collection.

Well explained. I like your purpose-driven approach to owning and using a timepiece. I can resonate with that. I don't live in a place where it is common to go out and swim. It is pretty much cold and gloomy most of the time which is also why my daily driver doesn't feature a screw-down crown. Now comes my confusion, Sealander or the Farer. Right now, my heart says Sealander ;)

1 year and 3 months for a Daytona now seem like a thing of the past (it still depends on other factors). In Geneva, I approached an AD and the waiting time for the chocolate dial on Oysterflex Daytona was 5 years :D)  Then again, I have not focussed my energy on Rolex. I am building a good relationship with a Zenith AD but the demands are no way near crazy as a Rolex.  I am glad you were able to get the pieces you wanted :) Any other piece(Rolex) that has caught your attention and is not part of your collection?

Hehe no, nothing in my mind for the next one. I just got the Explorer, have to recover my balance :)

But in general a Grand Seiko is missing, from the pictures and videos I like the Omiwatari.

I truly believe you can't go wrong with either one. I know it's cliché, but I believe this is really the case.

Aside from the Explorers, I'd also throw the OP34 with white dial in the ring. Really wish Rolex hadn't changed up that model series so quickly.
