How much taper do you prefer on your watch straps?

I'm ordering a custom leather strap and I'm choosing the taper and started wondering how much taper people prefer on their watch straps.

Honestly, I prefer very little taper - helps the watch feel much more stable on the wrist. I typically do 22/20 or 20/18.

·

I’m a big taper guy. Can’t stand straight straps except natos. I want a 22mm bracelet to hit 16mm and a 20mm down to 14mm at the clasp. I never get what I want. 😕

·

Not fussed.  I have straps and bracelets with varying degrees of taper.  All look good enough, to me.

·

I prefer minimal taper, or none at all.

·

2-4mm. I didn't know it eclipsed this, but I prefer starting at 18mm and am not into wider belts.

·

I definitely prefer a ton of taper (19/16 or 20/16).  I find wider belts cumbersome.

·

I think 2mm taper is the sweet spot!

·

Like a middle school teacher used to say when we asked about essay length, "Just like a woman's dress; long (wide) enough to cover the subject, short (narrow) enough to keep it interesting."

·

20/16. It wears well on my Oris Pointer Date

·

For a bracelet, I want significant taper. At least 4mm. On a leather strap, I want a more modest taper of about 2mm.

·

My preference is 16mm at buckle (20/19/18 to 16mm).

·

A slight taper makes for a more comfortable experience on bracelet or strap.  A more pronounced taper makes you look like you just came out of a 1970's disco.

·

Only about 2mm.  I even like zero taper.

·

4mm taper is my preference for comfort 👍

·

I realized I like skinnier straps/bracelets, regardless of the taper. 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Whatever lug to lug your watch is, Always go 16mm at the buckle. Always.

Even on panerais, I taper my custom straps to 16mm at the buckle

·

Only buy bracelet watches if the taper goes at least to 17. Love the strong taper on my Oris pieces and the explorer.

·

If the watch is slim and light or vintage styled I like to have more taper. If the watch is (top) heavy, larger or very modern then just a slight taper is better for comfortability (imo).

·

Depends on the watch. On a big Planet Ocean i want no taper at all, on the Speedy i need a tapering bracelet.

Totally subjective thing.

Tool watch: No taper - 2mm.

Dress watch: 4mm of taper (to 16mm max).

Dress/tool watches: somewhere in between depending on the formality of the piece.

That’s a general guide for me but it really all depends on a watch’s case design/proportions

·

I tend to prefer 2mm taper.
No taper also works.
19/16mm works.
20/16mm is a bit weird, even with a thick strap, regardless of case size/weight... Oris 🙁

·

2mm of taper works best for me. Any more taper and I find it add's a kind a weird vintage vibe to a watch that doesn't need it and no taper tends to make pieces look clunky. That's my main gripe with things like some of the GS bracelets. No taper makes slender/unobtrusive watch seem clunky.

I prefer little to no taper, especially on bands that are 20mm. On me, they start to look like child watches if they get any smaller than that.
